Hey guys,

Just wanted to share a few frame grabs from my upcoming short film titled ILLEGAL. We shot with the HVX and the Redrock M2 adapter. Very light hungry but looks great. My DP is phenomenal so the footage looked even better.

As for noise, this film is extremely gritty in feel so I actually boosted it. So don't mind the film-like grain. :) Enjoy!

*There's a few more just a couple posts down.

A few more stills added. Thanks guys!

As for lighting, we rented a 3 top grip truck. Off the top of my head:

2 x 1200 HMI
2 x 575 HMI
2 x 4'- 4 bank Kinoflo
2 x 2K baby senior ARRI
3 x 650 W Tweenie (2) ARRI (1) PEPPER
4 x 300 W Betweenie (1) ARRI (3) PEPPER
4 x 100 W PEPPER

That was a whole lot of amps. Genny was critical but my sound guy absolutely hated it. In a perfect world, we would have silent solar powered gennys that store the sun's energy in high capacity cells that's capable of 500 amps. Haha, yeah right.

Will you marry me?

3,4,6,7 definately my favorites, they really shine compositionally.

Haha, I think my DP's single, lol! I'll ask him for you. JK.

Thanks man. My DP and I work very well together. I'm very fortunate he gets my visual style. #6 is my homage to Munich

funny you mention munich.... I was thinking that shot was very munich-esque (I was watching it last night btw)

good job man

"noise" ..... haha, that word strikes FEAR into so many.... its nice to see someone whos more worried about composition, lighting, story (havent seen your film yet though)

Looks wonderful! I would love to see some footage. The HVX+M2 seems like a great combo, and the lighting is excellent!

Of course, it sure doesn't hurt that the girl is really hot... :Drogar-Love(DBG):

Wow! FanTASTIC images! What really impresses me about this set of images is that they stay consistent; they don't suddeny reveal any sign of "oh look its VIDEO!!". They all look like they are from the same film; especially the one with the two characaters looking over the highway. Great stuff!

Thanks so much guys!

My DP's name is Kenneth Yeung. He's a native of Hollywood. If you guys want to work with him, send me a PM and I'll give you his info. I'll post the trailer as soon as I get the chance.

Also, lighting the HVX + M2 really felt like lighting 35. Set up time was insane. If you're working with the m2, just account for the longer setup times.

hoofandmouf, story is paramount in my book. It's more important to me than the visuals. Well I believe the visuals are inspired by the story. But it's for you guys to judge my storytelling abilities once it's released. :) Thanks again everyone!

Hoochy mama that looks amazing. Extremely good look you've got going on! Whats the target for the short film? When will you be able to post footage, and will it be viewable online? If not is it going to hit dvd?

Thanks Malcolm!

We are submitting to all the big festivals this year. I've already sent my submission in to Sundance and Slamdance and one of the two will be the world premiere. After that, I may post online for people to view. Don't think shorts can pull in too much money on DVD sales although my film is 24 minutes long. I'll try to cut a trailer to post very soon. Thanks again!

Very nice work. Congratulations. One of the directors I work with loves really dark scenes. I am going to forward this thread to him.

What lens set did you use on the M2?

great looking stuff. How many days did you rent the trucks and how much did it cost
you. If you don't mind me asking

Great work. No secret to me that the best lit stuff is the LEAST lit stuff. That is, actually having negative space.
