Wow, the camera body is a lot bigger than I thought it was... But in a good way. Nice photos, thanks for them!

Rails to tripod?

Rails to tripod?

That thing is looking sweet!

Will the camera have a quickrelease to take the shoulder mount off for switching to tripod? It looks like it might be screwed into the rail system.

That looks scary cool. Not only does the RED look big... that Time Tank is humungous!

Thanks for those.

It gives a better pov of what RED may look like. And with all this discussion on form factor and ergonomics etc... it's got me thinking about some possible designs for myself - i'm far from a draftsman, though. You know, thinking about how I like to shoot (although it's been awhile) and what I would be looking for.

Great stuff. I realize that this is just the general direction and specs/body etc... may change. Hmmm, if you can mount/screw in add ons to the camera body, then if it is a standard thread, you could make your own...ahh the imagination goes wild

Holly Bat Camera!
That thing looks like he took a Super Charger off a dragster and mounted it on his shoulder.
Of course when you think about it, it is a Super Charger of the camera world..............

Hmmm, it's going to be damn front heavy once you chuck a mattebox and follow-focus on the front of that baby.

And the shoulder rest, is that connected via a snap plate? I don't think the camera is coming off that rail system in a hurry - especially with the gear tethered out the back. Just quick-release off the shoulder rest and snap it onto a tripod. Very quick.

....actually, how would you attach a matte box and follow-focus? Not a lot of room with those handgrips on there.

The Red body needs to be sent to ergonomics and practicality class.

:)

It should slide on the rods to help balance. The battery and drive will also counterbalance it. Sliding or clampable weights on the rods would also help balance it.

Good point. A quick release plate will be most helpful in a run 'n gun, one minute shoulder, next minute tripod scenario.

Thanks for the pictures. It looks a lot bigger than I thought, too.

Obviously the Red Rail is for handheld situations, so I'm wondering where the EVF or LCD would go. The rendition with the EVF on top would obviously not work unless it can swivel down to eye level.

microforce motor, mattebox, ff3 followfocus - those take up a lot of room on an arri 19mm rod system - I'm not seeing a lot of available realestate on those rods, even with sliding.

Adding weights? Do you really want more weight?

Also it's interesting to note that the Red setup is getting longer in length, which is the opposite to what sony did to the F900.

The price you pay for 4K I suppose :)

Well I'm disappointed, I thought Jim said everything had changed design-wise, but it seems to me that nothing has changed in terms of front-heaviness.
This body design is just not practical at all, it serves no purpose of its own, it is useless, meaning it is impossible to have it simply balanced without adding quite a lot of equipment.
Don't get me wrong, I'm getting one as soon as I can pay for it:grin: , I'm a part of the revolution:thumbup: , and I still can't believe all the good news from IBC, it's just that this design of body is not gonna help anybody, let me repeat ANYBODY.
