Backa' My Lac - - - BET video

That song never ends!!! :)

Great job on the video, considering this, I'm sure, is exactly what the client wanted.

yeah man looks good, song is kinda slow but your just making happen not making the music good job.!!!

Eric very nice work. Yeah, the song drags on forever, but the camera work is great. Nice production value. Did you use 1/15th shutter in the bar scene? What crane are you using?

cool vid man. liked the song and the groove.

id check your lens before shooting though . seemed a little dirty at times.

Hey everybody thanks for taking a look at this project. This was a one person project, where I was the Director, DP, Producer, PC, Cam-op, Gaffer, location/talent scout, editor etc etc.

Budget: $1500
Format: DVX100a

I used the 0.7x wide angle lens for almost every shot. My other equipment included a 1200w Arri HMI, 2 arri 650 tungstens, 1 homemade flourescent, and two on camera lights. Indie Dolly track, a cheap camcrane (model: DVC200) and the sticky pod car mount.

I shot night scenes with a 1/24 shutter, does it go lower than that?

The rappers friends helped me out anytime I needed. Somone got me the number of the leader of the 'Cadillac Boyz' (ehhem...*eastside gang*) and they brought out 25 old school caddys all chromed ut and sitting on white walls. Sweet.

We also had a behind the scenes camera going around, which got some really great footage.

I agree, the song is way too long. After the video was released last summer, Mustafa th Kingpin was going to hire me to do 2 videos on 35mm. Unfortunately, his bar (where we shot the bar scene) had a shoot out, and a few people got murdered. I would post the pictures on here if I knew how. Needless, to say, I dissapeared from the scene.

I color corrected on Avid Xpress pro, it was actually the first time I did CC, and it totally improved the images. The video was on BET uncut last fall, (that late night show).

best,

Yeah it has slower shutter speeds in the user buttons. You have to turn off the regular shutter controls then you can activate the slow shutter. I use 1/15 sec shooting 30p instead of switching to gain controls when ever I can. Whenever I can usually means in scenes without a lot of movement since the slower shutter adds some motion blur. In 24p it's 1/6, and 1/12, and in 30p/60i it's 1/4, 1/8 1/15 and in 60i 1/30th sec is also an option.

Why would you use a slower shutter speed? More light intoduced without introducing grain by using gain controls. Downside is blurry motion unless that is what you want like here:

Kinda sucks that BET cancelled Uncut. I mean it wasn't the greatest show but it helped a lot of undiscovered music video directors get out there. I was suppose to have one of my clients videos up there, and two weeks before air, Uncut was cancelled (during this summer).

Oh well, cool stuff though!

I feel you on the low budget rap video scene man. Some of the videos I've worked on we couldn't finish because the artists went to jail during the production. Also when an relatively unknown artist is fronting $10k you can guess where that money is coming from.

Great job on the video, keep on grindin.

Peace.

Matt

I just got a call from the Artist, been over a year since we spoke - looks like we might be doing another video now on HVX.

Heres some screen grabs from the News right after we dropped the video, this was the bar scene at the bar he owns:
