Sony Vs. Red? Sony's early response to Red?

I dropped into the Red office today and something interesting was going on when i was there... the guys over at Red seemed to be having a hard time confirming the use of the Sony 4k projector at IBC... looks like there may be some political fires going on down in Japan... and it appears that Sony is trying to BLOCK RED from showing its images at IBC?

This doesn't seem right to me.. I can't see Sony doing this.. any way you spin it Sony ends up looking like bullys. Must be some kinda communication error.. but it's definately ramping up to be one hell of a David vs. Goliath.

Ill keep you guys updated.

UPDATE ---- Thursday Morning

looks like things have been resolved. Good news :)

I hope it isn't so, and if it is, it could really damage Sony's image of a professional business with such a childish behaviour.
What do they want? Jim Janard making a 4k projector himself, taking all their sales again :)

I don't know much about Sony corporate leadership, but I'm pretty sure they're all smaller in build than Jim.

yeah.....but in the end David beats Goliath. Sony is intimidated by RED. They never thought any company would developed such a camera and price it below their highend cameras.

If I was Sony, I'd be scared..

I have a feeling that last week when they showed the footage around to some important people at screening rooms in Hollywood that the word got out..

Sickening politics:furious3: but are we really surprised?

Sony might not have an answer to the new canons A1s/G1s coming out soon without hurting their higher end cameras sales.

Red reservations are rising just on the back of the expected footage. If Red achieves its own high standards certain other high end cameras will have to change or adapt AND lower their prices significantly. Sony might well be a casualty.

In the end it will be just a slight miss-understanding and all will be well:love4:

Aye right.

I would blame it on that damn Red Team. Why did'nt they just do what others have done and make a right balls up of it all.

"An internal Sony memo went out this morning to Sony Broadcast divisions from Japan that Red footage is not to be put on the sony 4k projector's servers at IBC."

i guess this is where we see what kind of balls IBC has .. seems that it is their event and the screening room is used by many company's ... if Sony donated the use or was paid a fee for the 4k then it seems they can't say X can't use the 4k ... at many of these events Y company provides the projectors for different rooms etc .. this would be the 1st that i've heard of where the supplier said do not show X company's clips ...

IMO somebody at sony doesn't know what they are doing and will be GONE after the bullpuckey hits the fan ...

I doubt any of this really came as a surprise to the RED team.
They knew they'd encounter resistance from Sony at some point.
Better that they sabatoge the supply of the machine, than suppy the machine and sabatoge its operation, though I still wouldn't put that one passed them.

Sony... If only Panasonic could make one. Although if they did it would probably be capable of projecting only 2k and then project it in 4 different places all in under 1/24th of a second(only kidding).

Why is Sony doing this? What do they got to gain? What power do they got in how they use their machine? Why can't they just let Red show it? What do they gain from it? A bad reputation of trying to, but unsuccessfully, concealing the competition.

Sony ripped off Nintendo easily but I can't see them ripping off Red.

If I remember correctly, Mike Curtis could tell a very similar story about SXSW, a Sony 4k projector, and the 1/3" HD Camera Shootout.

He had arranged to show the shootout footage at the film festival and, at the last minute, Sony put the squeeze on SXSW to cancel the viewing.

Word of earlier, promising HVX viewings were circulating and the comparisons with the Sony product were not favorable from Sony's perspective.

I think they had donated the use of the projector to the festival and wouldn't be surprised if this were the same thing all over again.

Where the f is Christie in all of this? Lagging. I cannot believe that IBC will allow Sony to dictate what is shown in their theater.

Lame, lame lame!

perhaps JVC would like to put their new 4k projector in the room for IBC ?

i believe Christie has a 2k projector ( no 4k yet)
