"Sparrow" on DVD - OFFICIAL THREAD - <DVD AVAILABLE>

Also, im very curious as to , it seems such a decent sized production, that HD wasnt chosen as the format.

As Norm said, it was mainly due to budget and time restraints, We had access to 3 DVX's aty the time (I had two, and Norm had one.) We had access at 2 Letus Filps, we also could easily edit the footage on either of our systems. To go HD required a lot more $ up front, as well as a learning curve. Although we can do HD now, as I've upgraded my system and camera to the HVX.

The DVD rocks IMO, I am very happy with how it has turned out. And even though we did not place as well as I had thought we should, I think we did justice with the full legnth film. It was definately a bigger production then Pandora, and pushed us to new levels. Nothing better then getting out there and making it happen IMO.

Hope you all enjoy it!

Hey it looks great - And i checked out your myspace page and saw all the posters. I'll try to talk my parents in to letting me buy it - its a bit tough to buy things when you're 16. The trailers look great too!! Ahhhh now this adds another on my list of indie dvds to buy - Sparrow, Smuggler's Ransom and Broken.

Question Norm. I plan on buying the DVD as soon as payday comes around, but I was wondering if you're going to have the full film available for viewing online at some point? Thanks.

Negative. We want to have as many reasons as possible on why people want to buy the DVD, so that we can actually pay the cast & crew something, as well as make our (okay, my) hard cost back. Putting the full length cut on the internet would be counter productive to that.

I'll take full responsibility for that one. I had in my head how we could try and hit nearly all the beats in the film, from A-Z, and stuff it into a 6 minute or less cut. Even those I showed it to thought it worked ... problem was, we were all too familiar with the story, so it made sense. What I SHOULD have done, was taken the 6 minute cut of the film that's on the site now (one of the main central scenes, and is a story within a story itself), and entered THAT into the Herofest ... would have probably fared much better.

That said, putting the cut in that we did, allowed for feedback on parts of the film we wouldn't have gotten otherwise, and I was able to make further refinements to the final work.

Which made the full version that much better IMO.

BTW- I forgot to give you kudos on the DVD design. Norm put a lot of work into the design of the DVD cover, disk, and menu's. It is well put together, and I think people will enjoy the design as well.

Yeah the full version IS that much better because of it. And thanks for the kudos on the artwork & DVD design.

However, props to you on taking the artwork I did & making that nifty DVD case, with the DVD poking out from inside!

K, enough mushyness ... I'll post the artwork here, for anyone that missed it in the other thread while I was still working on it.

I have spent WAY too much time on the following: trying to figure out the css coding to center a banner I just added to my MySpace.

www.myspace.com/normsanders

If anyone knows CSS REALLY well, I'd love to show you the code I've got to get it this far, but I can't get the stinkin' thing to actually center with the browser. Right now I've just cheated it for what I'm hoping is the most common monitory setting: 1024x768 ... so I've just shoved it 112 pixels in from the left.

Access to this web page is restricted at this time.

Reason:
The Websense category "Adult Material" is filtered.

Naughty, naughty, Norm. :)

If no one else gets to it first, I'll take a look when I get home.

Although CSS is not very good at centering things. I usually end up using CENTER tags, anyway, within the DIV or whatever.

Thanks to everyone who's purchased a DVD so far. Have them out to you in the mail first of the week!

Thanks PK for the props! I completely forgot to list in the opening post that $1 from every sale from DVXuser's will go to ISARA.com ... updating that post now.

We have two charities we'll be supporting from the sales. The other is "Jane Lane's Kids", which our Gaffer (Tung Bui) has supported with 100% of his profits (from any of his photo work) for a couple of years now. It's a charity that helps parents cope while their children are receiving cancer treatments, etc. down in San Diego. Cast & Crew affiliation sales (i.e. family & friends, etc.) will go to that one.

We'll keep track of the two, and about once a month or so transfer the donation(s) via Paypal.

GenJerDan, thanks for any assistance you can provide. Not sure why the 'adult' filter popped up on you! :huh: I've searched on google, and the common response is that CSS is very difficult to center images with ... though there appears to be work-arounds that I just can't get to work with the current code.

Hmm. What exactly are you trying to center? The page content is centered as much as it's going to be, if you want to compensate for different screen resolutions.

Anyway, try this (or similar) in the DIV:

position: relative;
width: 100%;
text-align: center;
vertical-align: middle;

Even though it says "text-align", it pretty much affects everything. Usually. I think.

Thanks Dan. I'll PM you the code I've got which sets up the profile ... it's just that banner at the very top that I'm trying to center, so no matter the person's monitor settings, it would still be centered.

Everything looks great, can't wait to see the actual finished product. :thumbsup:

BTW - I'm no CSS expert, but have done a fair bit of CSS coding. Feel free to shoot it my way too, if you are still having trouble. I can't guarantee anything, but I'll give it the ol' college try :)

Those ribs were SOOOO delicious Norm.....I wish there was some way to make the DVD scratch and sniff......

LOL!!!

UPDATE: My apologies in advance to everyone who ordered the DVD already. I should have had them shipped out yesterday, but they won't be making it in the mail until tomorrow.

I've got a BUNCH of orders already (thanks to both DVXuser & MySpace), but the bigger deal is that I've been in the middle of a large 1,000 fully packaged DVD order (duplication request) for another DVXuser member and so I'm juggling quite a few things at once.

If I can squeeze them out today, I will, but I expect to otherwise get them in tomorrow's mail. Thank you again for the orders!

Keep 'em coming! :thumbsup:
