Grabs from new super epic action movie (DVX102b, PD170, XL2)

It's all subjective... one thing I noticed different between our two choices, is that I went with a warmer look, where as you went with a cooler look. Two different looks, that are good in their own rights. :)

Well, I like 'em both - I prefer tommy's cc for the fight scenes, while Brandon's cc makes the dialogue scenes look better - I absolutely love what Brandon did with the outdoors grab! It's beautiful!!!

Tommy: I really like what you did with the first grab which shows the swat pointing their guns at the camera..And the last one you posted - care to share how you did them? I'd probably combine yours, brandon's and directing legend's cc for the final cut.

And regarding the more experienced cop, he was supposed to looke like this

However, it was unanimously voted that the 'baby faced' guy was a better actor, albeit his baby face. The 'rookie' wasn't a very strong actor either, and it was clear that 'baby face' was the best actor on set. Everybody's reservations were just about his young looks..

Hey Malcolm,

I was going to say... unless the younger looking guy was a better actor... :)

All I really did was bring the middle of the curves up a bit to bring out the highlights more, decreased the contrast by about 10 points, fixed the levels (there was a lot of red in the first one), and made it a little more blue.

Finally, since I did the touching up in Photoshop, I added a layer effect, satin, to smooth out the harsh video look.

I think everyones looking at the hue from what I did and not the other stuff (which is understandable)...

Here's the one dialog scene a little warmer:

Hello!

Hello!

Hey everyone!

I'm BLT the executive producer, script writer, director, and logistics coordinator of the this production. Mal's been pressing me to sign up and post on this site for quite some time now so here I am haha. Gosh, now that i've registered, I can see why...

Well... How should I begin? I guess I must admit that I am indeed stunned at the how large, resourceful, and informative this site is. Haha. Gosh. No wonder Mal's such a techie - He gets all his tidbits from here heh.

Well, I'm more of a producer, really - I organized and allocated all the logistical aspects of the shoot such as personnel management, food distribution, camera acquisition, PR handling, site security, costumes, props construction, etc. Having had 3 cameras for this production, an XL2, DVX, and PD170, I used the PD though I must conceed I'm just an average guy when it comes to camerawork and cinematography. Malcolm, is, by far, much better haha. I've been making films for the past 3 years now since I was 15-ish and this has, by far, been my largest production involving over 60-70 people.

Anyhow, its great having the opportunity to interact with like-minded film enthusiasts online. I hope to be able to entertain ya'll with this film as we trek the long and arduous journey from post-production to the final product. Before I drone on and on about this film do any of you have any questions about this movie? Please do not hesitate to shoot away. (Literally!) Haha. :kali:

I'm all ears (:

Hi BLT. I have a question. How did you budget your film. Did you use any sponsors or you're using your own resources.

I have a question: What are you guys planning on doing once the film is completed? Are you thinking about film festivals?

Funding & Festivals

Hi.

Yep we're intending to do the film festival route. However, getting original composed music is, in my opinion, our greatest challenge. Editing will definately take helluva long time but music, really, is the killer. Someone once told me that syncing good music with your footage is 50% of the film's quality and I'm inclined to agree haha. So yep. Once/If that is done I definately will go the film festival route heh.

Budget. Well, as the producer, I pursuaded some generous sponsors to donate $2,000 to my previous production, BLINDED. Many of the costumes (Body armor, guns) were actually reused from BLINDED or our previous stage competition, The Vault. Speaking of guns, NONE of them were purchased from Toys R Us. In fact, most of them were bought from this props shop here in Singapore or illegally acquired airsoft =P. The Singapore govt is rather anal about such things. Even toy replicas aren't allowed. So yeah. That chewed up quite a bit of our funds.

Apart from that, I got everyone (60-70 people) to donate about $10 each. Faced some protests of course but pursuasion gets the better of most chaps (: Expenses were crazy. Imagine chartering a huge-ass bus and catering 500 burgers for a mob of hungry actors to a warehouse in the middle of nowhere!

I'd say total budget for this film was about 4-5k total cost.

Wow man, you really pulled it up. I know the frustrations that working with huge casts gives you. I worked with 10 people top and can even imagine what was like to you guys. You'll be really famous in about 10 years from now. Is all the shooting done?

sorry i reread my post... didnt mean to sound so mean. they are both good in their own way, im a fan of the warmer look. i think its more believable as film.

Haha thanks for the compliment man. Well, we try our best. Yep the shootings mostly done. We're in post-production totally right now. Yeah it was pretty much hell coordinating so many people. I often had to divide our camera crew into 3 teams so we could cover 3 scenes simultaneously. It was that big. Gosh on reflection I realized that there wasn't even enough sitting room on the coach that took us to the location heh.

Re: tommyinla

i love the first and the last screengrab u CC... I guess the additional blue made those my fav. so far...
very 'clean' and cool feel...

No worries. I was just interested in your opinion. There are a lot of "bluish" movies out there. Take some of the Matrix scenes for example...

For me, I thought the blue was nice because it sort of envisioned a cold war-like feel...

Actually, speaking of color correction, white balance and all that, I'm actually thinking of using Tony Scott editing for this film - Basically very moody 'Man on Fire'/'Domino' style jump cuts, lots of saturation/contrast/, additive dissolve, and other dark thematics. What do ya'll think?

I loved ''Man on fire'', amazing film and amazing look. I liked the shaking cameras and playing with colors and contrast.
