Hvx Looks Different In Sd Tv Then In Broadcast Monitor. ?

I have a sony broadcast monitor i use to edit . I noticed that the HVX200 footage has a different less bold and vibrant look then when viewing on a regular sd tv. So my question is this. Which footage is accurate? The less colorful or more sharp looking one in my broadcast monitor. Or the colorful more contrast one in my sd tv. Both look good i am just wondering what to expect from the final output.

thanks

Broadcast monitor, hands down

If the broadcast monitor is calibrated correctly (using color bars and blue check) then it will provide you the correct/most accurate view of your footage. The TV set is well just that, a TV set. You can get it close perhaps, but it won't have near the accuracy of a real broadcast monitor.

cheers.

while we're on the subject, since i don't have an engineer handy, how should i go about calibrating my brodcast monitor? how i've done it so far is put bars up on my cam, then set the monitor by comparison (done the same with my NLE)

Download the DV Rack Field Guide and use the calibration procedure for their field monitor with your broadcast monitor.

I've all you've done up until now is to ensure that the output from two different monitors looks about the same when eyeballed, then all you've done is to ensure that both monitors are roughly equally messed up -- you've done nothing to calibrate either monitor to ensure that the color reproduction is accurate.

Of course they look different. One probably costs 10x as much.

But do a google search for color bar calibration and do it for both your screens. This will get you closer, but both screens will never match.

Come on man

Just reviewing your threads are starting too make me ill.

Dark foootage, footage looks different in monitors, footage looks dark on Dvd's, video noise, footy is thick, camera doesnt fit, Mac upgrades , leaving camera running, hardrive reccomendations, DO I need OSX 10.4 ? ...

Are you learning something or what?

What the F*CK?

LOL!!! John, i can understand your pain, i feel the same way about Brandon Rice.

Yes, i think we are all open to help, but sometimes it makes you feel that someone isnt really asking for the things he asks for...!

If someone can rent or buy a HVX and a field monitor, he should be able to ask/check BEFORE recording, and know that it cant be a good idea to calibrate the controlmonitor, from what you get from your lcd...autch!

I wasn't too impressed with the "tits" and "kick ass "comments.

However, it would be advised to do a few searches before asking some of the questions.
