Hey Guys.
I Just sold my Fx1 to a friend the other week.
I was wondering if sony will be bringing out anything new this year or early next year?
I'm looking for something simliar to the HDR-A!P (size) FX1 is to big for what i need.
So any info on next HDV or HD Cameras would be great.

Mitch (Sydney Australia).

I browse the net everyday waiting for sony to stop mocking us and come up with a true progressive HD (AVCHD?) camera with the same image control as the HVX or the XL H1. With these new Hd cameras by canon, Sony will come up with something for sure (since the Z1 and the FX1 will become obsolete the second these cameras hit the market). It makes me sick the way sony does business...actualy I can't even finish writing this post because I'm running for a barf bag right now.

As for where Sony's headed -- I don't believe we'll ever see another HDV model from Sony. When they put out the AVC-HD press release, they made some proclamations in there that seem quite certain to seal HDV's fate: they said that AVC is more than twice as efficient as MPEG-2, and that AVC is the best format suited for HD camcorder acquisition. Really doesn't leave much room for HDV...

So if Sony ever introduces another HDV model I'll be quite flabbergasted.

Expect Sony to introduce more AVC-HD models (they've announced two little palmcorder AVC-HD models, but 1080/60i-only so nothing a filmmaker would want). I don't expect them to deliver what rawfa's asking for, a true 24p filmmaker's camera, since they've never made a proscan camcorder under $15,000. But who knows, maybe they'll put out an FX2/Z2 that finally does what we've been asking them to do since 2002...

That's what they said about HDV too.

That's what they said about DV too.

And that's what they'll say as long as they have unsold HDV inventory. As soon as they've cleared out their stockpiles, we'll see if they change their tune.

I hate reporting this as much as I hated reading it but if the rumors are true, prepare to be flabbergasted, disappointed and barfing.

A soon to be released FX2 - HDV, smaller cam with a smaller (62mm diameter vs old 72mm) lens, 3 CMOS maybe not even true 16:9. Thinner, cheaper, dumbed down.

I can't tell you how much I'm hoping for news about a new Panasonic. A 16:9 DVX (SD) or a AVCHD DVX. If anybody has knowledge or rumors about a new Panasonic, please post. My desperation is reaching epic proportions.

IBC? whats that?
Will this new sony HDR-UX1 and HDD be better then the HDR-A1?
Cause im thinking about getting a A1.
I want a camera before 2007 or early 2007.
What do u guys reakon i don't wanna spend more then $4500 AUD (2500 US)

Thanks, Mitch - Australia

With a budget of $2500 I would wait until these new cameras come out and the A1 drops in price, and buy the A1. If the new cameras are set to come out and replace the Z1U and Fx1 they will easily top $3500

So do u reakon going with the HDR-A1 over the new Hd format AVCHD?
I want a small camera that is really good for day to day use and also good to shoot shorts and surf/snow films.
When is the new Fx2 or whateva planned to be released/
Sorry for the million question i just wanna make the right choice this time, cause if i go buy a A1 i don't want to find out that early next year something 100 times better is out, but i guess that what sonys does.

If you wait something better will always come out. I dont think the replacement A1u will be priced under $2500

too bad Panasonic doesnt have any plans to upscale the DVX nor downscale the HVX :(

But i speculate once out, the new canon HD are going to take over the market pending a no hassle editing with Canon 24f (or whtever they called it) codec.

Who says they don't?

Nobody knows what they have planned, because they haven't announced anything. But that doesn't mean they're not working on something.

Panasonic seems to be extraordinarily tuned into what its customers want, so don't doubt that they'll come out with something quite interesting soon.

They do look compelling on paper. 24F is no easy thing to edit, only Vegas & Premiere Pro support it yet AFAIK.

The FX1 and the Z1 was sony's best selling camera ever.
I dit a test i shot a film with the fx1 in athens, back in holland i go to Panasonic holland
the thote it was a HVX 200.
