HD stills from photoahop

I would say as long as it is a flat image you are keyframing a pan around the image, than a 72 dpi at the resolution of your timeline would be fine.

If you are doing zooming ect, I would suggest at least a 150dpi up to a 300dpi.

Just a guess have never done.

Not entirely clear what you're trying to do by your wording. I'm taking it that you want to create an image in Photoshop and import it into your NLE to cut into a sequence w/ 720p footage.

If that is the case, you need to worry about pixel aspect ratios. From Barry:

US PARs:
4:3 DV, DVCPRO, DVCPRO50: .9091
16:9 DV, DVCPRO, DVCPRO50: 1.21
720p: 1.333:1
1080: 1.5:1

PAL PARS:
4:3 DV, DVCPRO, DVCPRO50: 1.09:1
16:9 DV, DVCPRO, DVCPRO50: 1.45:1
720p: 1.333:1
1080: 1.333:1

Now I know Photoshop added in the ability in its defaults to create a new file/workspace w/ the DV pixel aspect ratio (it creates the oval pixels for you so to speak). If it has one for HD resolutions I'm not sure about though. If not, you'll have to do some math for it to come out properly. If the frame size is 1280x720, well in Photoshop, if you're using the standard square pixels then you will need a greater vertical resolution inorder to compensate (ie for SD, with square pixel image to be imported into a DV timeline you would use an image of 720x546 not 480). So you'll need to figure out the base size first. Then if you need to do zooms or pans you'll need to apply the math to create the bigger frame size.

As for the dpi, I'm afraid I don't know that one for HD. For SD/DV all you needed was 72 dpi because that's all that was going to go out to the screen. If you wanted to pan/zoom the image you needed your pixel (image size) to be larger, but not the dpi (resolution). I don't think the HD stream would benefit more from a greater dpi, but I can't say for certain on that front.

cheers.

Photozoom...

Photozoom...

Where does PhotoZoom deal with the square pixel (print images) versus non-square pixel (film/video) issue? All I could find in the literature there on the web site is how good it is at doing high quality zooms. But if you're creating a fresh image from scratch in photoshop to bring to your NLE, is there an advantage to PhotoZoom? I'm not saying its not there, I just don't see it in the web site text.

cheers.

Photoshop Presets...

Photoshop Presets...

Okay I just fired up PS and looked it up. From Photoshop 7.0 and higher you have HDTV presets included in the software for you. So you'll simply want to use the 720P preset. It uses 72 dpi, so looks like you are fine using that too.

If you need to do the pans/zooms in your NLE w/ the image, simply create the file with your preset. Then, before doing anything else, go into your image size option and jack up the size. As long as preserve aspect ratio is on it should hold up fine for you.

cheers.

i miss read your post. Thought you were referring to export hd stills from the timeline and enlarging them

Sorry

I had kind of thought something similar too on the first reading. But I re-read it and interpreted the way I've talked about. Perhaps I was wrong in my interpretation though, not entirely sure what the desired workflow we're trying to sort out is.

cheers.
