Bootcamp Chicago Registration / InfoAug

Perhaps N8ture could submit some of his footage and appear on camera talking about his work....I'll shoot it for ya...

The problem is that we have to have people actually sign up. Chicago is the third-biggest city in the country, and we couldn't get enough sign-ups to justify going out there. I'm really surprised, I expected a ton of signups in a city that large. We sell out in NY and LA every time, so this was surprising (is it just because it's late August/vacation time?)

We'd be glad to hold one in Seattle or Atlanta or wherever, but the customer has to actually show up. We tried Vegas and barely broke even. Chicago looked like it was going to actually lose money. NY and LA have been our biggest crowds by far, we had 5x as many people sign up for NY than signed up for Chicago.

So hey, I'm all for doing one all over the country but -- it's expensive to put this thing on. L.A. works because our costs are so much lower (Jarred, Evin, and Noah are all local-hire so no flights or hotel bills). NY works because even though it's expensive, we got a LOT of people in -- more than we've had in LA even.

People are asking for bootcamps all over the place, but the thing is -- if we can get 40+ people to sign up, we'll go. If only 20 sign up, it's a losing proposition, we actually have to pay out of our pockets to host it, and that just doesn't make sense.

Thank you to everyone who did sign up, and we're sorry it didn't work out this time.
 
Sorry to see it was cancelled. I really wanted to go, but I could not work it out in time. I'm just starting out and still have a full time job - I really need a longer advance notice to schedule time off work, schedule flight, etc. If I had known about it back in May/June, I'd definately be there.
 
This totally blows, I just found out that Chicago was cancelled, and I broke my classic piggy bank to find the cash in order to go! I was just about to log in and purchase tickets.... S*%#!!!

My feeling is that was a factor, yes. I just got back from vacation and a shoot.

As to the short lead time on the announcement--I just barely found out about it before leaving and sent in my payment. [I had to cancel other appointments for that day and rearrange my work load to do it.] I even thought at the time, "Whoa, that's quick. Maybe the class size will be smaller!"

Jarred, et al., I realize you don't want to keep registering people and then refunding their money, but what if we were to get some sort of commitments from enough people here in fly-over country. With some more lead time and a less vacation/school-starting time of year, I bet we could fill the classes.

I'd be willing to lead the charge on this and organize whatever. Do we need monies collected before going public?

I posted in the other thread, but this one seems more active... anyway, that whole thing sucks, but more than that... I haven't been refunded my money yet according to Paypal... Jarred?
 
:beer: Hey I'm still going to Chicago! :) I'm not letting a little thing like a cancelled bootcamp stop me!

Anyone know if they're getting any fog on the lake early in the morning?
I was thinking of maybe setting up by Adler Planetarium and getting some early morning stuff.
 
I bet that'd be some beautiful footage. Not completely sure, but the last few mornings have gotten pretty foggy. So you just might get lucky.
 
Kevin- what all are you planning on shooting? I may be interested.
P.S. what part of IA are you out of?

I'd really like to get some first light stuff of the skyline and city before it gets to busy.
If Buckingham Fountain is still lit up at night, I'd like to hit that. Also gotta do the bean and all that kind of stuff. :)

The wife will be at a spa all day so I have the whole day to kill filming.

I'm just outside of Cedar Rapids.
 
this is great guys... turn it into a little HVX meeting out there.. Kevin is gonna blow your minds with what he has.
 
Does Zacuto have a HDTV setup? If it's close enough to walk I'd hike over there with some footage on a couple P2 cards or plug in my laptop and play some footage.
