Train Tracks and Back Alleys - More Brevis 35 Tests

hm,
seems like all of the "DIY" adapters are costing around one grand by now...
wasn´t eg the achromat supposed to cost sth like 130$?
Or was this from another adapter manufacturer?
Anyhow, bgundus footage was stunning as usual and the brevis seems to be a good product...!

Info on the adapter is at www.cinevate.com

Bob, I have a feeling that you could make a pop can with a piece of wax paper look good as an adapter :-) Stunning imagery.

u r a modest guy dennis. i like that.
can't wait to get my next project funded, i plan to go with your brevis adapter

Is it possible to have several mounts that are interchangeable for the Brevis that will allow you to use lenses of differing manufacturers, i.e. Canon, Nikon etc. or must you purchase with the intent of only using one brand. Also is there a swing/shift available to use with this system?

The lens mounts are interchangeable (takes 3 to 5 minutes). Nikon, Canon FD, Minolta MD, M42 and EOS are currently stocked, with PL's coming shortly.

An achromat is basically a fancy magnifying glass (commonly used as a macro) with two types of glass optically cemented together. It is designed to reduce chromatic aberration (different wavelengths of light refracted differently) and thus increases resolution too. Most of the larger cams need this lens to properly frame and focus on the imaging element.

I've never had a request for a swing/shift setup, however, I believe it would work just fine with our PL mount.

Hey Bob, what lenses are you using with your Brevis? Nikon?

I have the following Nikon lenses that I've use on the Brevis:

105 2.5
35 1.4
50 1.4
85 1.8
28 2.8
60 micro 2.8

The two I use the most are the 50 and 85.

Bob, great everything. You are inspirational man.

Some good examples of subtle DoF I like to see. Did you have the HVX full open and what approximate F-stop(s) on the 35mm lens on some of the deeper DoF shots? Also, if I may ask, what lens or lenses did you use please? Thanks.

I try to shoot the HVX at arounf F4-5 and depennding on the light available, the Nikon lens will be from 1.4 to 2.8.

Always the same camera settings.

Any chance of some pointers? I'm still struggling but improving (very) slowly. I'm due to fly to Delhi in a fortnight! I went last year with a consumer camcorder and am now going back to do it properly... I really don't want to screw things up!
Cheers

Any specific help?

WOW THis footage is stunning!!! I had no idea that the Brevis could looks so good - way to go Dennis and Bob - nice stuff!

Longest lens ?

Longest lens ?

Anyone tried this with a longer lens, say 200mm, 300mm or larger ? What does the HVX turn these lens into regarding zoom distance. I am trying to get a zoom that is = to an 800mm 35mm still lens. any info would be great.

Thank you

Getting specific settings would be redundant but how did/would you go about setting the camera up? do you have a specific routine? Also roughly what did you do with regards the fine tunning i.e. things like Master Ped, Matrix etc.*

Finally if you looked at the pre-colour corrected footage is there a noticable difference with the finished product? Is the CC a 'tweak' or should I be looking at it as a major component of the finished look of the product?
Thanks

Indy....

* I've 'got' the basic exposure its the fine tunning I'm having problems with!

I usually just shoot at Gamma D with Matrix on Normal. This gives the most lattitude but will generally look a little flat. This gives the most flexibilty at the color correction stage. Exposure is the most important thing you can do. Try to shoot earlier and later in the day when the sun isn't just beating directly overhead. Bring a polorizer too.

hmm, how is the unit on the edges? is it a tad soft? like the redrock adapter?

I've never tried the Redrock but the Brevis appears very sharp to me. It also depends heavily on what lenses you are using.
