How fast can you shoot in single shot mode?

I don't have a HVX so I can't test, nore have I found it listed anywhere...

But in single shot mode - where the camera just records one frame each time you hit the record button.. how fast can the camera go?

Hit record and get a frame, how long do you have to wait before you can hit it again? 5 sec? 1 sec? ... 1/24th of a sec? 1/60th? As fast as you can press the button?

Anyone with a HVX care to test this for me?

15 seconds of rapid button-pressing produced 17 distinct frames. When viewed using the p2 viewer, the frames appeared to be duplicated in a 1:2:3 pattern for reasons I can only guess at. Pressing 1 time per 5 secs clearly allowed enough time for the camera to reset completely for the next frame, but the output still had the 1:2:3 pattern like a pulldown sequence. Hope this helps.

Not sure what you mean by 1:2:3 patern.

Man, only just above 1fps? bummer. I was hoping that it could do more.

For a given image "A" the p2 viewer shows one frame. The following frame is repeated once (two copies), and the following image occupies 3 frames. So stepping through the recording (using p2 viewer) shows images like so: A/BB/CCC/D/EE/FFF/G/HH/III and so on. I'd be happy for someone else to verify this, because I think it's weird and may be some artifact created by the p2 viewer or 720p30 translation. Since the HVX undocumented frame rates go to 2 fps, I'm not sure what's missing between that and the manual 1 fps or intervalometer settings.

Thanks for the clarification.
1:2:3 seems strange .. I dont' see why not just 2:2:2.. go figure. But that's not as crucial as the actual max shooting speed.

Can anyone get faster than that? - I'm thinking possible hand-cranking here.

Are you looking for variation? I mean, you can get anywhere from 2 to 60 fps (in even-frame increments) using the "frame rate hack", so I am guessing that you're trying to introduce the variations in timing that hand-cranking would do?

If that's the effect you're going for, I'd think timewarp in post or just messing with the audio would work. I'm doubtful a general audience would appreciate the variations in frame rate from hand-cranking if there were no audio, unless the effect were extreme.

*sigh* look guys, thsi is the first step.

If it can go faster then 1fps, if it can get up into realistic shooting speeds...
Obviously you can't hit the button fast enough to shoot properly, let along keep a constant speed.
But there's that Start/stop input on the remote connector. And that can be connected to an electronic circuit.

Sure the Frame-rate-hack allows you to set teh camera to shoot at special speeds. But if we can move the frame rate control outside the camera we can easily make controllers to perform fully variable framerates. How about a hardware ramping knob, or a computer interface to perform offspeed shooting, ramps, or perhaps mo-con?

What if it can go all the way to 60fps? even in the PAL camera?

I see a LOT of potential here if the camera can shoot single-shot fast enough from an external trigger.
