editing on FCP 5.0.4.

i was delivered a lacie hard drive (not the fs-100) from a short film production.

it has a folder on it titled "fs-100" and within this is a lot of folders and mxf files.

From reading around on the web it seems that someone copied the contents of an fs-100 to this firewire drive without first running the "organise P2" utility on the fs-100.

Am i totally up the creek? Is there a utility that will take this data and create a p2 "contents" folder for me. If not, can i copy this stuff back to an fs-100 and run the utility there?

Thanks for any help,

Eddie

You will need to get this material onto an FS-100 to run the organize P2 function (you will need to copy all the contents back to FS-100). Final Cut will not recognize the clips unless they are in the P2 directory structure. Do you still have the FS-100 you shot the production on?

thanks matt. do you have experience with this? will it actually work or is that just my best shot?

I don't have the drive still. We would have to go rent one.

Thanks again,

Eddie

Might I also suggest that you crossgrade to FCP 5.1 (current rev is 5.1.1) since that incorporates a number of improvements in working with P2 footage. It is not just for Intel machines.

Yes, as long as you copy the folder that contains the MXF clips as well as the LOG folder back to FS-100, Organize P2 will be successful.

Success!

Success!

Matt, Barry, Ned,

Thank you all for your suggestions: all turned out to be right on the money.

The fs-100 successfully ran the organise P2 function, created a contents folder. It wouldn't open in 5.0.4. I didn't have time to do a crossgrade to 5.1 by mail so i took a drive down to the apple store in SoHo where they let me import the P2 files on one of their display machines running 5.1. Walked out with the .mov files and started cutting.

Sent the excellent "5 easy steps" workflow pdf that Focus Enhancements has on their website to the production house and the equipment rental company, hopefully saving another editor some grief.

Thanks,

Eddie
