New short Film *The Drive In* - (Enjoy)

That was humorous but I have to admit, the ending kindof blew it for me. Movies tend to hold people's interest that create conflict and tension. You had the tension for awhile but the payoff seemed a bit cheap. Not to mention we didnt even really get a decent kiss scene out of it.

That was the point of it, that they made so much of a big deal of it that when it happend it was like a let down, which usually in real life , its like that. well, specially in those sittuations, first date, 16 years old.. etc.

Then why did she say "he's a better kisser than I thought", and he say "I think I'm in love" ???? Doesn't make much sense that if it was a "letdown", like you say.

If you're looking for a critique, here's mine (if not, ignore me):

The cuts didn't match up well at all, and the continuity was butchered on most of them. The constant "cricket" sound effect was just plain annoying. Acting was OK... which is a complement... I think. Major lack of establishing shots - - at least get on shot of the outside of the car.

p.s. I'm having a bad day.

Makes sense I guess. It could of added to the plot maybe? "I can't beleive he took me to the drive in this is so lame" and you could have him dressed in old 70's clothes.

Lol. I'm dumb.

My Two Cents

My Two Cents

Cute concept. It had a clever premise and was true to its subject matter, teenage uncomfortable first dates. But something that was as or more uncomfortable than the date were the jump cuts. If she turns her head in one shot and in the next shot turns her head again, that's jarring. Rarely do you use jump cuts, and this is not a time to use them. Keep it simple when you are dealing with romance. Let the actors do the work. Those break away shots where it's a wide shot suddenly, and then cuts back into a close up are horrible...kill them. Keep the mood with your editing. Your cuts should flow with the dialogue and be seamless. They are too noticeable. The music at the beginning fades out too quickly. I like the rhythmic editing at the beginning, but try to get more of a variety of shots. Have one from her perspective. Maybe an establishing shot of the two of them from the front of the car through the windshield. Pacing was really good though. It kept my interest, but the editing gave me an aneurysm. The good news is that these things can be fixed now in post.

Good luck and nice movie,
Michael

yah, I got that 90 to 10 line from HITCH lol

but as for as the cuts, These actors are actually not really actors. ones a film student and ones a actress but she got called on the day of the shoot cuz my other actress backed out. so.!

they didnt know there lines at all..

so I just shot ea of them line by line. and matched it in post.

I thought it was pretty good. I think the important thing is to get out there and actually produce something, learn from it, and keep improving on your craft. Good job.l
