So you have a Red-servation and $20K....

As my interest in RED is primarily for 3D, being about to mount small diameter lenses is of particular interest to me. It sounds like a custom modification may be necessary. I still don't know if the dimensions of the redesigned RED camera body will allow for parallel (side-by-side) dual-camera stereocopic 3D. That may require another mod. Waiting for IBC.

Do you mean narrative 3D ?

RED# wish I was higher

Jim Cameron is indeed among the new digital stereo pioneers. My interests, activities, approach and budget (haha) are different.

I know that Jim (Jannard not Cameron) is interested in stereo too.

I bet Jim's going to pioneer the first set of viewfinder goggles in the form and style of a thump frame maybe? :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

So, if I am using the #1 recommended Nikkor 17-35mm lense which chart do I use from RED.com? What lense is it considered equivalent to? A 2/3" B4? or a 35mm? or S16mm?

Also, how much of the lense is being used? Since the aspect rations are different from still 4:3 to HD 16:9 to film 1.85:1. Is there a multiplier effect like my Nikon D100 has 2X and thus uses less of the lense right?

Take a look at this thread:
http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=64685

This lens can cover the largest area shown. Simple calculations are included.

The 17-35mm will have the 35mm still equivelent of 26-55mm using the super 35mm frame size.

Which means that it's not particularly useful for the smaller formats because it doesn't offer any wide angles.

Mr Blonde ,

I actually like that Idea. You could have what looks like an eye patch or a small cup with a headband. The cord could go over the ear, say 6' foot long. Think about that. You could free your self up to pull focus or what ever, and keep your eye on the shot, at all times.....Trying to think out side the old box. May not be such a good Idea! ....What do you think?

Put the camera in windowed mode and the lens changes to 55-115mm roughly.

Sounds like a pretty good general purpose lens all of a sudden, as long as the image quality holds.

General purpose? For what format?

Someone needs to post a lens conversion chart (new thread). I can do it next week when I get back if no one else can do it. Thanks. Jim

35mm Still S35 Cine S16mm 2/3" 1/3"

Beat you to it, or did you beat me?
Any way I made it a sticky. Delete whichever one you prefer.

I beat you by almost 30 minutes.. I thought you where busy making a graphical chart or something.. which woulda been very cool.

2K and 1080p shooting.

IE: the 17-35mm in S35 = 26-55mm. The director wants to zoom in more, but you explain that you can't because you don't have a telephoto lens because you spent all you're money on the camera, the 17-35mm is the only lens you have and the production didn't have any money to rent any other lenses.

Answer? Put it in S16 mode to get a 55-115mm range (roughly).

I know using windowed mode to get telephoto shots isn't the best method, but it is a way.
