The Revolutionary Mysterium Sensor

I'm a bit curious about this sensor, or to be more specific, about it's origin.

Did Mr. Jannard find out about a new technology and decided to take it up? (invest in it exclusively?) Did he have an idea himself and had it engineered? How did it start? (or come to be?)

While I'm pretty sure the specifics of the sensor are top-secret, I'm very inspired by the creation and origin of something so revolutionary.

Thanks guys,

I like your question. I am also very curious about the back story to the RED company and its development. If you look at comparable products like the DALSA, D-20 and Genesis, you see really big cameras with tons of circuit boards drawing lots of power and even fans to cool the darn thing. Yet RED will be able to accomplish the same thing and even more in a smaller package. I wonder what they figured out that the other guys didn't. This would make a very interesting documentary.

But we may never know the answers to these questions. The most valuable thing to a company is its proprietary secrets and the Mysterium sensor may be the biggest one of them all.

i guess the name Mysterium sensor has some mystery in it... may be Jim wants to leave it as a mystery for us to wonder & be curious about it forever LOL, i think its better to keep the technology behind it in secret not only for the propierity reasons but also to amaze the user of the product every time they turn on the footage from this camera... they'd think wow how did they do that... its all magic to me, & this mystery keeps things intresting too!

You inspire me everytime Jim, good man. Thanks for all the hard work you & your team are putting into RED ONE i wish you the best. :)

I guess one of the main reasons I'm curious is because sometimes it takes a fresh new mind and eyes, someone who may not be considered an expert in the field (in this case sensor engineering) to suggest something so outside the box that the 'experts' would have never thought of it. More than anything I'm wondering if this is one of those times? Or if it was the 'experts' were the ones coming up with something new?

People like Orsen Well's with Citizen Kane, or Henry Ford, who weren't exactly experts (filmmaker or automotive engineer) but had people they could give their ideas and perspectives to who were and revolutionized/significantly changed, their industries.

I don't know if this makes sense, but... I really respect the courage of taking a leap, especially or mainly at such a low cost to the buyer. I'd higher body guards if I were on the RED team.

Mysterium...

One day Jim was hanging a clock in his bathroom, slipped, hit his head on the porcelain and the vision of the mysterium sensor came to him.

lol wes.

That was also the day he came up with idea for the flux compasitor.

Jim, we should be calling you Doc by now! Any chance you have a dog by the name of Einstein Jim?
