Hi,

I have emailed serious magic but only got one of those automated replys. so I thought I would ask here too.

I have seen a few threads that speak of a new DV RACK package that will supports the various frame rates of the HVX over firewire.

Is this true?

When will it be out?

Will is support the PAL camera?

Any idea on price?

so many questions, so little time....

It is true, it's in beta now, no announcement yet as to when it'll be out, I believe it will support all PAL formats too but not 100% sure on that, and as for pricing it'll eventually be $800 for the full DV Rack and HD PowerPak upgrade options. However, if you buy the existing DV Rack and HDV PowerPak, you'll get a free upgrade to the HVX version when it's available, and some dealers are selling DV Rack + HDV PowerPak for as little as around $350.
 
It looks no different than the existing DV Rack -- just visit the Serious Magic website for more information.

i dont think so. im sure barry will clarify, but i believe the HVX disables the firewire stream in that mode. nothing dvrack can do about that.

Also, do you really need the HDV upgrade if you are not going to use it?

yes, if you want the free upgrade that will work with your HVX-200 when it comes out. They have already announced that the price will be going up. Ya snooze, ya lose.

Correct, but it doesn't make any difference because DVC Rack records the incoming stream as if it was PN anyway.

DVCRack is an upgrade that supports HVX200 and comes with HDV support also, so even if you are not going to use it, you'll have it the same.

In fact, it will be the ONLY way to get DVCPro/DVCPro50/DVCProHD support -- it will be integrated into the existing HDV Powerpak, which will be renamed at that point, and at the same time, the price will go up. The upgrade that adds DVCPro/DVCPro50/DVCProHD support will be free to existing owners of the HDV Powerpak, which is why it is a good idea to buy it now.
