Lady in the Water

Not another teen movie does the same thing, no one complained about that, but of course it wasn't written and directed my M Night Shyamalan was it?

Yeah but a spoof is a spoof, when hes a serious writer doesn't that mean something when it comes off like that?

if you were seeing booms, then your projectionist had it mis-framed.

I work at a theatre and asked the projectionist and owner if this was somehow the projectionists fault and they both said absolutely not. Our theatre hasn't gotten Lady in the Water yet, so they can't possibly be trying to cover up a mistake they made.

lockedvault,

i have been working with an HD transfer of the film for the last 10 weeks while producing the DVD bonus features. i also attended a cast and crew screening on the warner bros lot of a brand new pristine print about a week before the theatrical release. there were no booms within the frame.

Just saw this tonight... went into the movie not reading any reviews or comments, as I wanted to go in with no presuppositions. Ok... this movie was straight up brilliant! From everything down to the writing and the casting... M. Night has made a masterpiece. It was well paced, never dragged, and I believed the world he created. Go see this movie, NOW!

Yep Yep Yep!

I loved Lady In The Water. I think M. Night is a brilliant filmmaker. I don't think he can make a bad movie. And The Village is in my all time top five.

LitW has made $40,839,528 in a month. The budget was $55 million. Does this rank as a flop?

Fun fact: M. Knight Shyamalan's favorite filmmaker is M. Knight Shyamalan.

I'm disagreeing with you on Signs all the way. Water as a weakness to an alien being? How could that not make sense? It's just like fire is a weakness to humans... you touch it you get burned. How could it not make sense to create an alien race that's vulnerable to water? There're like ten reasons that could make that theory possible.

Well you have to admit, they are pretty stupid Aliens who choose to invade a planet that is covered 70% by water and it rains..... a lot... oh an it kills them if they touch it.

I personally think thats a glaring hole. I wouldnt invade a planet full of liquid metal.. but each to his own.

I think M Night gets a lot of criticism simply because he gets a huge amount of exposure for the kind of movies he makes. Very few working in horror/thriller seem to get that exposure. Also he's set himself a difficult task of being 'original'. People expect more from him and I think are more easy to judge because they go in saying "come on, impress me"

lets face it if you saw one of his films straight to video you'd be like "wow this was pretty good" but the hype tends to destroy his films.

Personally I think Unbreakable is his best. Signs being very enjoyable and very tense (apart from the ending which was a bit too christian for me).

Finally saw the movie. In short, to me, this was probably the poorer film (storywise) from M. Night, but it was probably the one were he showed best his directing skills (Fantastic shots, incredible acting- excluding, of course, himsellf). It had the strongest lead performance from all his movies. Giammanti was excelent. He carried the movie from beginning to the end. Bryce Dallas was also very good.

The movie felt more of a "response"of Shyamalan to the bad reviews he got from film critics to his "formula". And "his" character was just damn pretentious. I really hated his choice of portraying the character he did in the movie- incredible lack of modesty there.

The critic's lines where funny.

Once again, big thumbs up for Giammanti. I wasn't expecting such incredible depth and range from this actor. The impression I got from him in Sideways was of a new generation "Billy Crystal", who to me is a pretty overrated average actor, but, I was deeply mistaken. He sure can act.

As for Chrystopher Doyle's cinematography... I was disappointed on the lighting and coloring (very far from the phenomenal Wong Kar Wai work), but was impressed by the framming and mise-en-scene. I'm not sure if this is merit of the cinematographer or the director.

Overall, still a movie I would recommend to see. To aspiring filmmakers, the cinematography, directing and acting is first class. The movie is actually quite achievable in a smaller budget. Notice how Shyamalan reveals one of the most OTT characters in the end with the "inside water" shot.

A must see for the technical part- story wise, its average.

Lady in the Water

I watched this for the first time recently and I have to say:

M NIGHT

YOU CANNOT ACT

STAY OUT OF YOUR EFFIN FILMS

-

They were not kidding when they said NIGHT took on more than a supporting role; he plays a MAJOR character ?

What is this guy doing ? He took me out of the moment in SIGNS and just completely makes a laughable performance in this film.

-

The film itself is not complete crap. The guy can make movies, he knows how too tell a story even if this one is left with a lack luster finale; not great, not bad ... just there

-

Giamatti rules as always but I had heard a ton of praise for the chick (From The Village) and was left, underwhelmed.

Performance ? Sitting in a shower stall and mumbling the whole time ?

-

I love the look of the film and the mood is wonderful. But overall I was left with a feeling of 'Eh'. I can take some inspiration from the piece and even enjoyed some of the moments but ...

It's time Night made a film he did not write; and surely will not be in .

2 of 5 Stars

Seventy-millimeter-widescreen-technicolor-six-track-dolby 'eh.'

Ever since 'Sixth Sense' and 'Unbreakable,' M Night has been just wasting my effin' time.

Well, I kind of liked the movie. Of course I went in expecting the worst...and got it in M. Night's acting. I actually enjoyed the mythical story and I agree with Hudson, that Giamatti rocks. He was the best thing in this movie. If Night can get over his need to act in everything, I venture to guess that he would have a better acted movie. This certainly isn't near the top of his movies, but it was entertaining. I've seen a lot of movies this past year that I thought were worse. I guess I'd give this 2-1/2 out of 5 stars.

i don't know about the feature but that 'Reflections of Lady in the Water' documentary was freakin' awesome!!! ;)
