Lady in the Water

Lady in the Water came out today for all who do not know. I just came back from seeing it. Didn't suck wasn't awesome just was ok. Just worth watching. And Night is in the whole film pretty much. But it was ok. I don't know if I will see it again. maybe...I think it would be better if there were more scenes at night with the creature.

I would have to say that I liked his other movies better such as the village. This one is more of a bedtime story (which he wrote for his kids by the way) But he still kept the story with strange things in it but no twist at the end just a regular ending. Bryce Dallas Howard did as good as she did in the village. but still Night had a major role in the film and acted through out the whole film. This was more of a film where in some scenes you sit back in your chair waiting for what's going to happen next till a jump scene came. The CGI was really good also, and a good story. But in my own opinion I like the village better as in story wise. But still good film over all.

haven't you heard? Lady in the Water is a dismal failure from a pretentious ego-maniac. you're not suppose to like it, you're suppose to climb aboard the bandwagon and bash the hell out of it.

I'm a night fan, I'll see it and buy it, but its just sad to see amazing tallent go down the drain slowly.

Everyones been bashing him ever since the village, and I agree his recent films (Including the village) don't compare to his first three major hollywood movies, but their still great filmmaking.

Let's think about that for just a moment. "his recent films (Including the village) don't compare to his first three major hollywood movies." That leaves The Village and Lady in the Water. At the risk of being scorned, I'm going to say that I liked The Village. I actually liked it better than Unbreakable and quite a bit better than Signs. He has yet to disappoint me. I haven't seen Lady in the Water yet, but I plan to. Of course, The Sixth Sense was...yes, I'll say it...a masterpiece. It is a hard act to follow, and as such, everything he does that isn't as good will be view as somewhat of a failure. It's just wrong-headed thinking. The man can definitely make movies.

I agree I really like Shyamalan no matter what anybody says.

I've liked all of his movies.

My order from best to worst of his movies that I've seen.

Signs
The Sixth Sense
Unbreakable
The Village

I'm a Night fan too. He's one of the few guys working in Hollywood still capable of passing that aura of "magic" that films from the likes of Spielberg had.

Sérgio, I agree.

I didn't have opportunity to answer your nice PM but I liked it. It has your own eye.

Right there with ya, buddy.

I agree with everything you said. Night's hardcore, and I like all of his movies. I can't really see why everyone hates on him so much.

Going to see Lady in the Water... because as with all of his releases, never miss em in the theaters.

I like everything he's made so far. But the trailer to Lady in the Water doesn't appeal to me, so I probably won't see it until dvd.

Signs was my least fav with Sixth Sense of course being the best, but all his are good to great. Lady in the Water, though, just doesn't attract me. So I'll just wait.

Night is going down the toilet - but yeah it is an over exagerated fact. He does get worse with each movie he makes, but he does still have a charm to his movies that still keep it at least "worth watching". There are laughably bad parts in all his movies, and it's getting worse and worse, but there is still that uniqueness to it - he takes his time and doesn't try to impress like cookie cutters.

Signs was by far his worst - never got why people say the Village is the worst (though it is bad).

Sixth Sense was needed to be good to save his career and he took his time with it - now IMO, he's in cookie cutter mode and it's a production only job to him.

Sorry, you lost me.

Sixth Sense needed to saver his career? The Sixth Sense MADE his career what it is now.

Wide Awake wasn't watched until after Sixth Sense became. And I'm sure he took his time with it because he had a phenomenal script... which he penned himself. I'm also willing to bet he's taken his time with all of his movies.

Oh, you didn't know?

Tomorrow is double feature day. Super Ex during the day, Lady in the Water at night.

LIke I'm going to miss a Reitman movie while it's in theaters. Pfft.

HUH???

He made two movies before the Sixth sense - both of which were bombs, that he was disappointed in, and made him feel very pessimistic about his career and he even got completely embarassed and yelled at by a studio exec for a post-prod. meeting for Wide Awake.

He needed Sixth Sense to work to emerge from a defeated indie guy to a reputable Hollywood bigshot - is what I meant.

Now that he achieved that status with Sixth sense - it does seem his movies are more cookie cutter - I mean since SS, they all do have glaring screenwriting holes

Never read the interview where he specifically said he needed Sixth Sense to make him a hollywood bigshot...

But yes, he did make two movies before then and they were "failures" because of what they were. Not because he didn't spend enough time on them...

But, now I see what you're saying. Thanks for clearin' it up.

Added: As a discussion topic? What would you see as holes in the scripts of his other movies outside of Sixth Sense?

Night is one of the few filmmakers working that seems to truly understand this mythical language of cinema. I fail to understand the smack that is ran against him
