New P2 Log software for Macintosh users

This is really annoying.

Does anyone have a solution for this?

Agreed. We're victims like you of poor testing on Apple's part. Anyway, we've found a work around for the OSX10.4.7 debacle and everything is working as it should. Simply download the P2Log installer fresh, run it and enter the serial number.

Only connection problems some folks have are blocked networks or no web access. The only way around those are the manual activation procedure.

Any progress on the 60fps - 24fps frame removal option? It would make the P2 Log useful for those of us in North America how don't want duplicate frames to triple their drive space/data rate.

Actually, we've been busy stomping out the OSX problem and other pressing matters (we develop and sell a lot of products besides this one ya know).

P2Log is just one month old...we're still runing the introductory pricing...

I found a bug the other day with this software. It seems to have an audio problem on import. The last second of audio somehow gets looped. It happens consistantly on every import.

P2 Log opens, plays audio, no video?

So....

I've installed P2 Log and FCP HD, all of the DVCProHD components seem to be in place. I'm still not getting any video playback in the monitor window. P2 Log sees all the metadata, we get audio and timecode but no video.

The video forrmat is 720p60, 23.97 FPS.

I've got a call into Dan M. along with an e-mail or two to Imagine's support.

Anyone got an idea on how to get this working?

MacBook 2Ghz 512 RAM
Mac OS X 10.4.7

Thanks.

Um, you are REALLY going to need FCP 5.1.1 to work with DVCPRO-HD properly. I know there was an update to P2 Log recently about some playback issues. You must have FCP 5.1.1, cause FCP-HD (4.x) only runs in Rosetta on the Intel Macs, and you really do NOT want to run FCP in Rosetta. So, you really do mean FCP 5.1.1, right?

Yep this is a case of PowerPC codecs not working on an Intel based Mac. As Ben says you need to upgrade to the Universal version and then install the 5.1.1 update for reliable 720p work.

The only way you could possibly currently do it is to set P2 Log to open using Rosetta and then it might pick up the PowerPC codecs, but maybe not and performance will not be good. Go for FCS 5.1 Universal.

That makes sense. I think this might be a lost cause, as the MacBook doesn't actually meet the system minimums to run FCP in HD. Anyone have an idea as to weither or not you can install software you can't run just so another program can use it's components?:badputer:

To clarifythe situation (a bit) we want to use this laptop solely as a way for the field producer to have a copy of the footage for her viewing pleasure. No editing will be done on this system.

Did P2 log change prices from $99 to $199? I thought it was 99 bucks and now when I go to get it it's listed at $199. What happened?

All I know is it was $99 when I had to leave town to shoot a feature. Now I'm back and want to get it and it's DOUBLED in price? Are you serious?

That's unbelievable!

I've just recommended this product to a fellow DP this morning. So he called me back to let me know I gave him the wrong price. I've checked and I couldn't understand why the increase.
It's still a good price for an excellent product, but it just doesn't fell right to double like that.

Sad!

It was at $99 for quite a while. There was still snow on the ground when I was using it in Montana. If I remember correctly they said it would go up to $199 after the introductory price.

I guess the alternative was they could have just introduced it for $199.

Still single computer licensce, so now I'm talking about $400 for using it on my laptop and the editing station. Great. Just perfect.

I know it doesn't help you now but who knows maybe if sales drop off they'll run a $99 special again.

It's for sure not worth $199 with the locked down license you get for it. It's not saving the world or anything. I'd "like" to use it on my Powerbook in the field, but it's just not worth it. If it did more, worked easier, wasn't so basic. But, for $199 Per Computer, I just don't see how it would ever pay for itself.

I make my living off this business. I have to justify a product, be it software or hardware, having a real ROI. This product, well, sadly disappointed with $199 Per Computer...

So, how does it make me $200 off of each computer I use it on? P2 Genie is working just fine for us. We like it, for a variety of reasons. I just think the whole P2 Log in all of it's incarnations is way over priced, period. Where is something else made for such a limited market with such limited ROI potential sold for so much?

And I spent many, many years working in the software manufacuring field. So, I have some idea what software pricing is like. And seeing how little my crew uses P2 Log, I just don't see the price being justified. In fact, I feel a little disappointed with what I got for $99 Per Computer in the first place.

If no one buys it at $199 they have two choices either lower the price or discontinue selling it.
I would think it would be foolish to stop selling it. They'll adjust price for what the market will bear.

While I'm glad I got mine at the introductory rate. I use it so much that it would be worth the $200 if I had to buy it today.

Granted, I don't agree with the licensing scheme either but until someone comes up with a similar product there's no need for them to change it.
