I ordered my camera from Proviewdigital last week and it came two days later, fully packaged and brand new. Never had one problem with them or the camera so far.

Just wondering what you will do for warranty work if they are not Panasonic authorized.

Or for Jan, how can any company sell a US Warrantied cam without being Panasonic authorized?

It came with all the warranty material and I filled all that out. If it says it comes with a one-year Panisonic warranty, doesn't that count?

Ilooklikemark, that is good to hear. It is always best to go authorized, but if they are not authorized, it doesn't mean they will screw you over. It is just taking a risk. I am glad to hear you have been happy with your HVX because I would hate to see pmpworks get screwed.

Authorized dealers can buy product directly from Panasonic.

Unauthorized (or non-authorized?) dealers can't. So they have to buy it from somewhere else.

It is possible that some gray-marketers will find an authorized dealer who's willing to unload his stock to them. Doing so gives the gray-marketer authorized US units, since they were originally bought from an authorized dealer. The end customer is, in this circumstance, pretty much getting the product second-hand. Doesn't mean that it's "used", but that it will be the second time the unit was sold (once by the authorized dealer to the gray-marketer, and a second time from the gray-marketer to the end user).

The thing is, there's no guarantee that the gray-marketer will be able to continue to buy in this fashion. His source may "dry up", for example. And if that happens, they may be forced to look into imported models from other countries (taking advantage of currency exchange rates, etc) to stock their shelves. And if they do, then that's the end of warranty service, etc.

So just because someone's not an authorized dealer, doesn't *guarantee* that their product is not authorized. It raises the odds, but it doesn't guarantee it.

What I don't get is -- how can these gray-marketers be advertising for less than the authorized dealer? If they're selling authorized units, there's only one place they can get 'em from -- an authorized dealer. Which means their cost of goods must inherently be *higher* than the authorized dealer! So potentially an authorized dealer should be able to beat the price from any gray-marketer who's offering legitimate authorized US product.

Well, I did a lot of research before hand (proview was the cheapest site I could find at the time) and I called them on many different occassions to make sure that they always told me the same thing. Some stores like to tell different stories to different people as some of you know. But, the site says it comes with a "Panasonic 1 Year Parts and Labor Warranty" and I filled out the paperwork. I know it wasn't an authorized webiste, but I didn't have a lot of money (college student) so I had to do what I thought was best.

Well mine's shipping out tomorrow, they tried to charge my card but it didn't go thru (my bank saw the amount and location of proview in New York and expected fraud) The guy at proview said that happens all the time, he waited ten minutes then processed and everything was fine) The guy was very friendly, he said he would send me a tracking number tomorrow after shipping so I can plan on waiting on the front porch when she arrives, the UPS drivers around here are the same way, ring the doorbell once, drop the box, run to the truck and burn rubber. As far as gray-market stuff, I'm just taking a guess here but I've been to New York once and I figure someone Like an "authorized dealer" his moving his stock around thru places like proview, they have a good rep and sell stuff thru amazon. Anyway I'm excited.

Keep in mind that according to our dealer agreement, dealers are not supposed to resell their stock. This is a privilege that our distribution venodrs have and this product is not available through them as of yet. So if you want to check your warranty, and HVX Book status, send me a privat message with your serial number.

Good Luck,

Jan

pmpworks, make sure you shop around and negotiate. I got my hvx from an authorized dealer for $4800 new in the box. Never buy from anyone without checking them out first.

Which Authorized dealer?
