Mounted P2 Media Cards

Okay here's a question, is there any way at all to write to a P2 Media card that is mounted on the desktop? I'm just curious if you can take the raw contents (Contetns folder and LastClip.txt) you have backed up on your hard drive (or DVD-R, etc.) and later take them back to the cards and thus camera?

Currently when I have the cards mounted on the desktop, if I do a 'Get Info' it says they are read only (no the write protection is not on, it is turned off, as I had just recorded stuff to it a few seconds prior to writing this, to make sure of that fact).

cheers.

Guess not...

Guess not...

Looking at a posting in the workflow section I guess this is not possible. I have to say though that's too bad. If I ever wanted to put the stuff back on cards to re-create the original 'reel' for say doing a fresh timecode burn DVD for a director or such I can't without having to use FCP and go through a bunch of hassle. Ah well.

cheers.

Yes you can write to the card all day long, if you're using a PC. I've used cards to transfer Microsoft Word documents from one computer to another, for example. It just appears to the system as an external removable storage device.

On the Mac, this is not so easy, but on WinXP it's a no-brainer.

Dang...

Dang...

Now when you say...

On the Mac, this is not so easy

does that mean you do know of some way of allowing it happen on the Mac? I'd certailny be interested to know, even if it was a bit of a pill to do.

cheers.

I'm between Macs right now so I can't test it. I believe it can be done but I can't tell you exactly how. (I was never more than a Mac Newbie, so we'll need some Mac expert to write in and confirm or deny).

The Mac sees the p2 card as a volume, at least in a PC Card slot.

It sees it as a firewire volume when connected to the cam as well.

If it is set to read/write, you can copy what you wish.

What I'd love is a way to export a self contained out of FCP, and then have that wrapped in MXF format and copied to the card.

Read/Write...

Read/Write...

David,

The problem is when mounted on the desktop the card is only read only. I tried to see if I could change that but I couldn't find any place to do so. The write protect on the card was off as I mentioned in my original posting. So any other thoughts as to how to write to it on a Mac?

cheers.

Yep

Yep

Did try that one and no dice there. That's is exactly where I thought I needed to adjust it, but when I expanded the permissions area it said Read Only but then didn't have all the additional choices that might allow me to toggle such. It was grey text I think, 'Read Only' only, like 'this is all you're allowed to do dude.' The camera is out of my possesion right now under going some frequency tests so I can't further investigate till we get it back. Anyway, thanks for the replies though, hopefully will figure it out sooner or later.

cheers.
