Want some more frame rates?

Yes, 15=25fps on the European version.

On the US version, both 14 and 15 show up as 24fps. I didn't try timing out the 15 setting to see how many actual fps it delivers.

Ah, that would be interesting to know. At least it would be easier than letting somone hack the firmware, to get a "regionfree" HVX. :)

That won't happen. The crystal speeds are different, there is no such thing as a region-free HVX. It would have to be designed from the ground up with multiple crystals in it and reboot from one to the other, and it wasn't.

So your PAL unit can get a sort-of-24p in 720 mode, but it doesn't get NTSC SD or 1080/24p or 1080/30p or 1080/60i.

And the NTSC unit *may* have some sort of 25p and 50p in 720, but it won't have 1080/25p or 1080/50i or PAL SD.

Ah, the "Crystal". Is there a white paper or something similar I can read about it? Maybe in your book (I'm still reading)?

This is why I bought a NTSC unit.

I have just found another use for this hack.

My DOP has requested that I set up a group of Scene files for our general standard shooting requirements. Now his interest was actually more in terms of frame rates that could be changed at the click of a button.

by using this hack, and setting up a group of scene files, I can switch easily from 2fps to 12fps to 25fps to 50fps in a flash from the scene file selector on the back of the camera.

Tops work barry.

I read in your book (table on page 51), that the actual framerates of the NTSC model are all off the stated frames per second. Like 20 stated fps are 19.55 actual fps, which is quite a big difference. Now, when nowing this could it be that a possible 25 fps mode hack in 720 is recognized as "regular" 25p by a NLE, even though for PAL, the actual frame rate for 25 fps is 25.00 fps?

30p and 24p in PAL version

30p and 24p in PAL version

Nope. Pal just goes to 50p. Can go to 2fps, tough

This is not true. We can shot in 720/24p or 720/30p as NSTC US cameras but we can't go upper than 50p.

Why they did that? It is not a hardware problem the problem is the soft that doesn't allow you to go up to numbers uppers than 29.

This is really unfair cause I should buy a cheaper NTSC camera in USA and when I want to shot at PAL I Should put the mode in 720/25p and downcoverting with software to 576/25p.

ok, If i applied this to the pal version. Would i be able to crank up to 60fps? In my opinion a better slow mo for action.

Yes no mabe?

From what I have seen, the answer is no. After reading through the posts in this thread, they all seemed to indicate that this hack only gave you options between 2fps and the maximum fps of your camera. ie 60fps for the NTSC version and 50fps for the PAL.

Unfortunately we must work with the limitations of our cameras.

Above 60fps?

Above 60fps?

Has anyone tried an alphanumeric combination to get frate rates above 60? For example, if 0000500F: 1 changes the frame rate to 2fps, what would 0000500F: 1A do? Just a thought.

Nothing, it'll ignore it. The numbers are parsed as numbers, not as hex or anything like that. There is no way to get faster than 60fps.

I haven't found any circumstance in which it harms anything at all, but I have found a few cases where it just plain refuses to record. Primarily with 720/25p on the US version, it just won't record to the card at all in 720/24pN @ 25fps, it immediately comes up with a "P2 Micon error".

So the only difference between adjusting the frame rate to 2fps and adjusting the interval record to 2fps is being able to record 24p as opposed to 30p?

The shutter speed is the main thing. That plus there are far more frame rate options possible through the "frame rate hack". You can simulate a few of them with the intervalometer but not all.
