Hi all,

I urgently need a definative answer on the time taken to offload and 8gb card to powerbook via pcmcia. If you can tell me timess for internal and ext firewire 800 drives, all the better.

Thanks heaps for any help.

In my experience, it should take about 4-6 minutes to offload 8G P2 to internal hard drive or FW800 drive connected to a Powerbook. This is based on my tests with a built-in PCMCIA slot, not an external one.

I'm getting similar results, but I dump to a fw 800 Lacie Big Disk (raid 0). Time, about 4 minutes)

Thanks so much Joe. Are you using P2 genie or a drag and drop approach?

The tests I've done were just using a drag & drop, although I have since read that it's better to use Apple's Disk Utility to copy a disk image from the P2 card to the hard drive (internal or external) for greater assurance of an accurate copy.

Hey all,

I Want to bump this up. I'm testing right now using a powerbook with a lacie d2 drive connected via FW800.

I'm only getting transfer rates of 1gb a min to the lacie via the pcmcia slot which is about half of the speed the guys above are reporting. Im new to Mac and wondered if there is anything in the setting I should look for which may be slowing things down.

Im dragging and dropping the contents of the file to the lacie. No problems at all baring the speed and the shoot Im going into is based around the speed of the card transfer..

Any help appreciated. I'll do a test now to the internal drive and post the results.

Cheers

Hmm, perhaps I was overestimating the time. I put the stopwatch on the transfer. 6'16" to the internal drive for a 8gb card and 6'00" to the lacie ext drive. Ladies and gents we have a winner! I guess those time are roughly the same as editatjoes. But not 4mins as reported by SPZ, would that be the difference RAID0 makes?

I'll get home and do a stopwatch test. However, the transfer to the Lacie is indeed faster than to the internal HDD.
