Just last minute worries here:
Shootin a video monday next (july 10)
HVX.mini 35 - mac powerbook 1.67ghz and g-raid 300GB /P2 cards

1. We have a P2 Store on our rental list - Do I really need it?
Our AC will offload the card into the powerbook pc card slot into the G_RAID drive.

2. If I ditch the P2 Store and purchase P2 viewer and P2 Genie - will this be a stable work set up - ie. no bugs or glitches in either product. NOT BETA PROGRAMS?
I am only backing up to the G_RAID - maybe DVD's but I am not sure if I'll bother...

3. What about 24pn shooting - I know it is less capture space, but I just want the 24frame look. I will be editing in FCP5 - and outputing a BETA SP master for NTSC broadcast. This is 29.97 world right? When I have shot with the DVX 100 and SDX 900 - it was a simple in camera pull down - footage was editied directly in FCP at 29.97 timeline for NTSC broadcast. What issues am I going to get by shooting 24pN?

It is just all so murky - I have looked at many posts and sther are some issues and wide ranging answers. I would like some real world experiences and possible workflow guidlines for my 1st AC. I dont want to worry so much about all of this stuff - as I have enough to think about with lighting and operating on the day...
thanks in advance for enlightenment. I will share my experiences when it is all complete.

If you are going to output 60i, why record in 24pn? Record in 24pa, treat it just like you would footage from the DVX100.

I'd go with P2 Genie for sure, it'll auto copy your P2 cards. You can automate it. Stick the card it, when P2G says it's done, take it out and reuse it. Thus, no need for the P2 Store, unless you want to use it as a back-up unit.

P2's 24pn would save space on the P2 cards, but, you'd have to edit on a 24p timeline, period. If my output is going to be 60i, I shoot in 60i(24pa) , unless there's a real reason not to.

PM me if you'd like.

What I do is film in 24PN. Edit it in 24 and than copy to DV50 24 timeline (SD) to write it to tape. I makes/writes 29.97 frames automatically. But that is to mini dv. But if you have a Beta SP recorder it willl do the same. So you can safe space indeed to shoot 24 PN

Editing in 24p is key for my projects. I add a lot of composites like overlays that needs animation... it would look crappy if my project was filmed in 24 and the composites or titles moved at 60i.

correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you just do the composites/animations in 24 fps?

hmmm..... and correct me if I'm wrong here but why are you editing and outputting to 29.97 if you want the 24p look?

yes you can.... which is why I'm wondering he's bothering with 29.97?
