Piano Music Video shot with Letus35

Awesome video, she plays with the camera really well and has an amazing unique voice, does she have a myspace or someplace to hear more music, I'd like to buy a cd? Nothing but props on the video, I thought it was well paced, the only thing I thought was the hug for the violinist was a little weird. That voice, omg!!!:crybaby:

Btw, I couldn't save it, the name comes up as "Lullabye.test.v4" but it's an empty file.

Edit: Just saw it for about the 3rd time and she has some pronunciation issues, she says "Mutey" instead of beauty on the first chorus, and "Hangry" instead of angry towards the end. I'm a producer so I'm a little extra nit-picky on the words, pronunciation, and performance along with the video.

We should have a myspace page for her soon. And I'll work on that link.

I just watched it. I dig the look of it....You really captured that surreal look and feel well. I guess its the piano in the woods...But dayum... Great job

Thanks man. Glad u liked it.

The guy who bought the Letus bought a small canon lens, I dont remember the specs on it, but he bought it for $50 I think. I dont know about the letus, but we only had the letus for a few days before I used it and we didnt notice all the specs until we reviewed the footage. Some of them are in the canon lens that he bought.

You can turn on mirror image in the camera and it flips the horizontal for you. If you put a tiny magnet on the side of the lcd, you can essentially make the camera look perfectly normal.

You can't very well focus looking at the lcd, but if you have a regular monitor you can just turn it over and use that for focus.

I agree with all of the comments so far, but I'm going to give a little constructive criticism.

I thought that the shot in the beginning where you backed up but zoomed in, or maybe it was the other way around, didn't serve a purpose and didn't quite match the tone.

I really liked the look though. I do agree some of the crane shots were a little too fast, though.

Thanks man. The vertigo shot was a creative choice to make the piano appear on the bridge, since you dont see pianos in the forest all that often. And since she starts out alone in the vid, we thought the piano reveal needed to be more than just a straight cut.

Im thinking mesa need to replace that first crane shot. Thanks for the comments.

Very nice. Looks sharper than a lot of adapter clips I've been seeing lately. Did you sharpen it up in post at all, or did you just make sure you were shooting in the sweet spot of the lenses?

There were only 2 shots I remember that I sharpened, and I only sharpened it a small amount, one on the piano and I cant remember where the other one was.

Kevin,

Another great video. Your work is always well above par. I think the adapter worked out well for you on this shoot...it gave it that softer filmic quality that really matched the tone and mood of the song. The setting was very complementary too. And that piano looked freakin' awesome. I'm actually doing a shoot with a piano in it later next month, but I think I'm going for a black baby grand in a more industrial, staler enviornment.

The only thing that I thought was odd was the Dolly Zoom with the piano. I tend to be hypercritical when it comes to this technique, because I think it's one of those things that looks so cool yet is used inappropriately a lot because it's so hard to resist and show restraint. I always want to use it, but then I ask myself if it's really necessary for the scene, and most of the time I opt out because I think I'm doing it more for stylistic reasons than for substance.

I get that you wanted to establish the piano in the forest rather than just have it appear...I'm just not sure if it came off with the desired effect. It seemed a little off from the rest of the video because it was so jarring and disorienting comparably. But like I said, I'm hypercritical of that technique anyway, and this is only IMHO.

But it looks great man!!! Keep up the good work!

So you used a canon lens, letus35 and the dvx. Did you use any image softening filter? Or maybe softened it in post? Did you use anything like MB? The shots looked like something you'd see in a wedding picture. Very nice job! Fun to watch.

Kevin,

So what's your next project then? What'ya working on next?

Well right now we are finishing up post on our short film Pursuit, finishing up sound, music, and cc. We are hopefully planning on having a premiere, and once thats over, we will either get into the next short film we want to do, or we will continue with our feature if investor interest picks up. Why, do you have a story you want me to do?

Hmm. Well the vertigo shot didnt come out as expected, so I guess overall it doesnt give the desired effect that I wanted, but what I saw in my mind was the best way I could see to introduce the piano, since moving it around more than needed was out of the question, and I didnt want to do a crane shot that early on in the video, so, I dont know. It was also hard because she started playing the piano so quickly. The original song started right off and we added a few seconds for video purposes.

Yeah, the oceans vid is coming, I promise. I had a few questions about that anyways, but I will talk to you when I get back in town, I have a shoot all next week. Later,

I did not use any image softening whatsoever, nor did I soften it in post. I dont use MB, and for this video I tried to do all the CC in camera and on location. Thanks man.
