Preserving Memory (4min Short Film)

Hmmmm... not sure if I really get it. Editing was nice, but the story lacked, and moved along really slowly.

Nice work for a first, though.

The editing was great and I loved the color. But I too am not so sure if I understood the story completely. Was it kinda like right before you die your life flashes before your eyes kind of thing? Besides that, awesome first movie.

P.S. what kind of lighting setup did you have in the hallway of the school?

I agree with the others, the choppy editing got my attention-but I ended lost in the story. I liked the focusing & color also. Good job.

thanks guys, im glad u all like the editing... i was sceptical how the story would go down, thought it would be too 'long' for a common viewer (someone not involved with film) and if it would be fully understood... there is definitely a lot that is purposely left untold.. like the fact that the girl is tied up half-undressed with another man, but it is as Movie Troll said, its the last thought this guy has before he looses his life.....mmmm, its good to get comments back - i realise i should have gone with my worries, and polished the story board a bit more before. thanks! anymore? :)

I actually had the opposite problem. I had no problem at all following the story but feel like you relied a little too heavily on editing gimmicks and style tricks. It was annoying me while watching the movie. Once I reached the end, I understood better how those gimmicks applied to the story, but that doesn't entirely excuse things.

However, I don't want to sound negative. This is a pretty good film, congrats. I turn most random internet shorts off once they start to annoy me, so this one had something that kept me watching. Well done.

Nice work! The editing is busy, but I kinda think you need it to set your film apart from the average short. Lots of closeups hey... in a way the wider shots tell your story better, and when you use them I think your framing is good. I like how you treated the burglar... backing away into the dark.

On the whole a good job!

I actually agre with dougspice.

I did like it though, although the high-pitched score got really aggravating after 4 minutes.

Yeah, I think I'm going to go along with everyone else on this one and say that the end left me wondering a bit. I've got some ideas, but it doesn't seem clear at all as to why he was shot and why they were tied up.

But... It was definately great(and easy) to watch. It had an Eternal Sunshine vibe running through its veins.

thanks for the threads guys!
thanks naughtygeorge,
dougspice i really liked you post i was relying on the vid to keep ones attention till the end so that u do get the story in that last scene, so im happy it maintained your attention.
organism it was a good idea, thanks
i do believe the story is easily understood, so good to know u agree (some of u)

lawsuit boy, i was after a dreamy or surreal 'look' for the memory, so im happy it had the eternal-sunshine-of-the-spotless-mind feel for u.

as to why he was shot and why she is tied up. thats deliberately untold. its not what i was after, the film is targeted at capturing the final memory this one man's unconscious chose to sum-up his life out of all his memories... the loosness of the 'robbery' is left to the viewer to intrpret.. or maybe a sequel HAHAHA! return of the dead :) just kidding. not into horrors actually... :)
