RED idea: no buttons except on joystick on cage

To keep REDs body design sleek and rain proof (I don't need a scuba housing) all buttons should be mounted on a handle. There should be no buttons on the body. The handle should be connected by a cable. An optional extension cable of ten or twenty feet could be used to operate all controls remotely. The LCD screen would be connected to REDs body by cable too. That way it could also have an extension cord. A cable is better than a wireless remote if people wanted to put RED underwater on a pole, while they stay dry in a boat. I don't want to SCUBA. (sharks scare me.)
Another advantage to a detatchable joystick/handle with all the controls on it is that if a button breaks, you can attatch a new handle without sending your camera in for repairs, where they will keep it hostage for months on end. The main idea is to keep the RED body at least humidity proof, maybe splash proof, rain proof, water proof, or even dive proof to 3 feet. I don't need to dive 100 ft down.
I don't have time to draw a picture. I have attached some pics of things that resemble what I am talking about, but ar not exactly what I mean. The SCUBA gear is just there to give ideas. I guess I want a hybrid. I want RED to be waterproof. I don't want a SCUBA housing. But I want the camera to look like a scuba set up with the RED cage. I want it designed to be tough like a scuba gear but not as tough. I don't want it to be heavy or too bulky. I like the way SCUBA gear uses the tripod zoom handle cable to control the camera. I want all controls on the handle. There could be different style handles. Some people will want a tripod handle instead of a joystick. Some people will want a handle on top of the camera w/ all the controls. RED should come just as a body. The customer should be able to pick what kind of handle they want and where they will mount it on the cage. But the main idea is that the handle will have all the buttons on it, and the Body will have no buttons or dials where dust, humidity, or rain can get into the body.

Check out the handle, but it needs more buttons.

what I don't want

what I don't want

All these buttons are on the Canon XL body, so rain can get inside. I will buy a Canon XL-HD if RED doesn't make what I want. I don't like tape, so I am waitning for RED to see if they store to SD card. Also the XL is too big. I like the size of the Canon GL. I know the RED cage will be big, but hopefully it will still be more compact than the Canon XL. Of course RED will be 4K, but I am not so interested in that. If Canon makes a new GL-HD that stores to SD card before Red come out, then I will go with Canon. I am sitting on the HD sidelines untill then. RED can make the body compact by having a small mic, and not having an eye piece LCD. The whole thing has to fit in a backpack. An XL is too big to do that.

this is more like it

this is more like it

Sony HVR-Z1U HDV comes closest to what I want. Lot of buttons on the handle. But still not perfect. The handle is not detachable. All the buttons are not on the handle. Yeah I know it is going to be a beg handle to have all the buttons. So what. Thats what I want. RED, make me happy. I like that the LCD is connected to the handle. I like that the handle is on the top. I shoot from the hip. The Sony has more buttons than I need. I don't want this camera because it uses tape an dis not humidity/condensation proof. I don't need SCUBA gear, just humidity and rain protection. I could just get a EWA Marine bag, but that is not sleek or cool.

not so retarded after all.

not so retarded after all.

The pics are more of what I am talking about, but the thing is a cheap piece of junk. RED can do it much better. The point is it is not SCUBA gear. But I don't see any buttons on the handle and the handle is not on the top. This is an uncomfortable way to hold or carry a camera. The point of this pick is that there is a handle, it is not SCUBA gear, and there are some wires connecting to the camera.

Ricoh Capio 500G

Ricoh Capio 500G

Ok, this is just an 8 MP digital camera, not a 4K pro movie camea. But this is basically what I am talking about. It is water resistant to 1 meter, but isn't some big bulky Scuba thing. It is still a little ugly, but I will still probably get one. I hope RED is sexy, not an ugly duckling like this Ricoh. I want RED to examine this Ricoh and just scale it up to a movie camera with 11MP. Is that so hard. Ricoh always has great ideas, but somehow their products don't sell well because their ideas are too weird or too expensive for the average consumer. The GR-1 is too expensive for what it is or I would get one of those. RED should be inspired by the Capio and execute it so it is cool like an ipod. Everybody makes MP3 players, but they are not sleek and sexy like the iPod. Make RED sleek and sexy, not just a utilitarian ugly duckling with buttons all over the whole thing so that when I pick it up, I accidentally mess up my settings and don't realize it untill it is too late.

http://www.ricoh.com/r_dc/caplio/500gwide/

Ricoh Caplio 500G wide is a 8-megapixel camera housed in a durable water resistant (to a depth of 1m), dust and shock resistant body (withstanding drops of up to 1m) and capable of working in temperatures of -10°C. The 500G wide sports a 28-85mm equivalent lens, 3x optical zoom, 26MB internal memory, camera-shake blur reduction and a 2.5-inch large LCD screen. The LCD features an anti-reflection coating for clearer viewing in daylight outdoors. You can easily adjust screen brightness to optimize image clarity .This tough little cookie also features an optical viewfinder, up to ISO 1600 and has an optional wide angle conversion lens. The built-in high-capacity flash has an effective range of up to 10m for wide-angle and 6.5m for telephoto, broadening the range of photographic opportunities. The camera is powered by a high-capacity lithium-ion rechargeable battery DB-43/ AA alkaline batteries. All buttons and dials are large enough to ensure you can easily operate the camera even when wearing gloves. The Ricoh Caplio 500G is designed for customers who will use it on construction sites, for insurance loss appraisal in disaster areas, in schools, and in other outdoor situations and is PictBridge compliant.

Ricoh can digiscope

Ricoh can digiscope

If a cheap Richo camera can digiscope (be attached to a microscope, telescope, field scope) why not RED?

http://www.ricoh.com/r_dc/caplio/gx8/features/features2.html

It has a histogram too.

http://www.ricoh.com/r_dc/caplio/gx8/features/features3.html

I did a quick check on how many uncompressed photos will fit on a 1GB SD card. Damn, RED will need some serious compression for video. With only a 8MP sensor, It would take 1GB of memory to store 1 sec of uncompressed video. Am I going to have to be teathered to a van with 100's of G-raid hard drives, to film for 1 hour? I hope not. Compression is going to be the bug-a-boo of RED.

scrap this idea

scrap this idea

Ok, scrap the whole joystick idea. Just make RED water proof to JIS class 7, and dust proof to class 6. If Ricoh can make buttons on the body water proof, so can RED. Ok, guys this is my last post. Thinking up ideas is taking up too much of my time.

85% humidity max.

85% humidity max.

Ok, maybe my idea wasn't so bad. This requires another post. That piece of junk Ricoh can unly be used in humidity up to 85%. It is usually about 95% humidity here in Miami in the summer. What a piece of junk. I hope red can make something I can use when I go to the Amazon and film. It is 99.9% humidity there. Can't anybody make a camera that isn't coing to crap out in high humidity? RED employees, get to work making me a humidity proof movie camera that doubles as a still camera. Take the RED camera into a sauna, if it doesn't blow up then it meets my specs.

http://www.ricoh.com/r_dc/caplio/300g/specs.html

You bastards in Northern California only have 10% humidity. I wonder why people film in Hollywood, CA instead of Hollywood, FL. Hey, how about a camera for me.

CMOSens humidity and temp sensor

CMOSens humidity and temp sensor

I am going to start a new thread for this after I fist post it here for continuity purposes.

tp://www.sensirion.com/en/04_cmosens_technology/02_humidity.htm

CMOS sensors are great for sensing temp and humidity changes. Great, Red is going to use a CMOS sensor. Gee, I wonder if it will get messed up if humidity gets into the camera? Dude, I looked at the Panasonic AG-HVX200 and I think that is what I will get, and just stuff it in a EWA marine bag. Case close. Time to move on , sorry RED, you are taking to long to come to market.

supersonic wave filter

supersonic wave filter

The new Panasonic DMC-L1 is a camera, not a video camera. So why talk about it? Because it is a Panasonic (We all like Panasonic.) It also has a supersonic wave filter system "that uses supersonic vibration to shake off any dust clinging to the sensor. This simplifies camera maintenance and eliminates worries about dust entering the camera body when lenses are being changed."

Hey RED guys, how about making a version of RED that doesn't have an interchangable lens, and keeps dust out in the first place. And keeps out humidity too. Is that too much to ask?

I don't need lots of buttons

I don't need lots of buttons

I don't need lots of buttons on my joystick. The consumer camcorder below doesn't have many buttons. You can make a barebones joystick for me, and a bigger control panel for people who want control over everything, and don't want it from a menu.

PCO Turbo Inspector

PCO Turbo Inspector

Below is a picture of the PCO Turbo Inspector.
http://www.PCO.de
Jannard knows what I am talking about.
There is no handle or buttons on the Inspector. The Inspector needs a cage, a cool housing, a handle/joystick with buttons. Make the housing humidity proof to 95% humidity. Connect the whole thing to a MacBook PRO.

Presto, you have a multimillion dollar buisness, with minimal initial capital investment. Pure genius. Now, make me #97, please.
