"The Faithful" Trailer, now online - HVX + M2

Hey guys,

Just finished cutting a trailer for our new short feature called "The Faithful." The film was shot entirely on the HVX with the M2 adapter and will be premiering in L.A. this December. Please excuse the compression of the video; I have limited space on my webserver with which to share the file!

If anyone has any questions, I'm more than happy to answer them. We had a blast making the movie! :)

Haakon, this footage looks great, love the premise - can't wait to see it on the silva screen!! great work

Nevermind, you have to play it in the browser. Doesn't look like you can just save it. Unless my laptop is retarded.

Saw the sample clips. Poster looks... like a real poster!!! Professional stuff, man. Professional looking trailer, as well.

Remember to invite me to the LA screening! I'm all in.

The best looking movie I'v seen yet filmed with the HVX....Looks very professional and a good stroy on top of it....I'd like to see this "film"....please post when its playing in the Orange County area....Best of luck to you....Norman

What a superb trailer. So well crafted. The music was great. The editing top-notch. Super professional.

The only thing I noticed -- and this might just be my eyes playing tricks, or the compression -- is that it seemed like you lost focus a few times?

Thanks everyone for all of the wonderful comments. I'm really proud of this film, but you never know how the rest of the world is going to react to the art you make. It feels very good to hear such positive things!

This project was the joint effort of several people, and I feel very honored to be able to work with such a great group of individuals. From the director to the actors to our unbelievable crew and even the extras who pledged their time to making our sets look 50x bigger than they really were, it was very much a collaborative effort. So I will make sure to pass on everyone's praise to our team!

Just a quick reply to address some of the comments:

Kholi: I think I fixed that downloading problem... it was just something with the way the server was configured. Give it another try, it should work.

digitalnirvana9: I know, "film," right? I guess it just sounds cooler than "check out my movie!" :) But you're right, all of this digital stuff is in a category all its own. I can't wait to see where things are headed!

DVXSanDiego: I was the director of photography on this film and operated as well. This one definitely gave the Steadicam muscles a workout!

Tom Lowe: Thank you for your exceedingly kind words! Alas, we can't take credit for the music in the clip - it's mostly temp stuff we culled from various places to be able to cut a trailer together until the score for the movie is finished. That being said, our composer, James Melvin, is AMAZING at this stuff and he's hard at work writing the themes for the film as we speak. I know you will not be dissapointed. The trailer was cut by myself and the director, Jacob Chase, who is also editing the movie. I should add a footnote that this version should probably be labeled "my cut" - he is seeing a couple of parts a different way and we're still tinkering with an "official" version. That being said, I think the core of the story comes across well in both cases and we're both very excited to be able to share the movie with everyone.

Regarding the focus, there are probably a few places where the focus is just slightly soft in the film - we were indeed using the 55m achromat, but more than that, I think it's just a result of using lenses which require über critical focus! We were shooting completely wide open with the 35mm adapter nearly the whole time (giving us a squabbling one inch of DOF in many cases!), and especially with so many moving shots in the movie, keeping perfect focus throughout was quite the trick. I applaud my 1st AC Danny Grunes for doing such a great job under the circumstances we were dealing with!

As an aside, I ended up pulling for him on a different movie that he was shooting, but they just used straight HVX with no adapter... I'll let you wager as to who got the easier end of that deal. :)

Lots more cool stuff to come!

Wonderful storytelling. Congrats!

By the way... I've made a search on "Jacob Chase" and ended up at IMBd with a guy born 1986. Is this the director?

Cool. Yeah you guys have made that trailer very professional indeed. I'll have to hit you up for some advice when it comes time for me to cut a real trailer.

Now this is filmmaking!
Can't forget that picture of you, the M2, the flyer the yellow cables AND the batterybelt :-)

Btv. One thing I simply don't get are the classic american "screeming" scenes. You know like in "Home Alone" when kevin sees the robbers face to face for the first time. And I see it's included in your movie as well. But it must be an American thing....

I especially like lighting in the low key night shots.

I knew it was a matter of time... Is this a full length feature or a short? Either way it looks fantastic and very filmic.

wow - really amazing - truly amazing - I loved the trailer - the concept - the pacing in the trailer

Good luck with it - you seemed to have done you job well

I have to post again about this - the structure of the trailer was perfect - it has stuck with me and I really want to see this film and I cant say that about a lot of trailers.

I cared for the kid feeling lonely. I am a sucker for dogs. And then I felt for the kid feeling cheated that his wish didnt work the way he wanted it to. Also GREAT choice of music - I love that song "breathe" - always reminds me of the 6 feet under finale.

Here again to tell ya that you did fix the problem, Haakon. Trailer is availble to right click and download now.

Truely magnificent work you've done behind the camera and on the cutting board. Can't wait to come out to see it on screening date.

Sweet trailer with some high production value.... Great lighting choices and cinematic. Where did you get your young actors? School location?

Hope you the best with this and keep us informed on the progress and development. Looks like you've got something with some real distribution potential... Thanks for sharing and for being a trendsetter... HVX features here we come!

Good luck...
