I've just started shooting with my hvx 200 and had it set to 720p/ 24p thinking that it that would be the proper camera setting if I want to intercut with the varicam. Well, as it turns out, the Avid Adrenaline 2.12 only supports 720p 24pn. My client is freaking out. The only solution I've been able to come up with is to play out of the cameras analog hd out into a box which converts the video to HD SDI and record onto a deck.

Is there another solution? I'm not at all familiar with post equipment and techniques. But this sounds like a nightmare!

Any help would save my butt! I've got to get other footage I shot for another client to them by friday next week as well. ugh.

Needless to say I asked the dealer I bought the camera from what camera settings I should use and they assured me 720p/ 24p was correct for intercutting with varicam footage in the avid wokflow. They sell varicams and hvx200's for gods sake. I assumed they would know.

I also talked to An avid person today and he didn't even know whether you can use varicam footage shot at 24 fps 59.94hz and hvx200 shot at 720p/ 24pn together in the same timeline. He told me to email him and he would get back to me in a few days! ?

help!

best to all

well, varicam is only 720 24p not 24pn...so you are correct. They both are contained in a 2332 interlaced steam....varicam cannot shoot native 24pn period.
so I assume the avid is broke or can't edit varicam anyways.

You are right that 720p24 is not supported in your version. You need to be at v2.2.3. Check out Michael Phillips HVX200 support doc:
http://www.24p.com/hvx200.html

You can't work in a 24p project though, only in the 60i or 60p type keeping the pulldown.

Of note, he mentions a workflow of using DV Film Maker to render a quicktime using the DNxHD codec as note (4), perhaps you could use this method to pull the MXF you have into DNxHD Quicktimes and then import into your project, since DV Film Maker has the necessary pulldown removal I think.

Good luck
Mark
