What software needed to view P2 on desktop

I can import into FCP from P2 cards on my mac powerbook using PCI port and installed Panasonic P2 software. I have made DVD copies of the P2 card volume and I can import from them also. They appear as P2 cards, apparently.

What software do I load into a desktop in order to import from the DVD backups?

I went to a Panasonic download site and there it is indicated that the software is for PCI Powerbooks. Can I use this on desktops as well to import from DVDs?

There are Macintosh G4 laptops that have PC Card slots. There isn't anything I know of called PCI Powerbooks.

Could you explain a little further?

If you to to this site:

https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/cs/csregistp2m/p2indexe.html

you will see that there is software for "Windows and Mac (powerbook)"

My questions are:

Is this the software that allows a computer to see a P2 card? Will it work on a desktop G5? The website may be saying that this software is for powerbooks only. I just don't want to load up software on my desktop machine that will cause problems.

I loaded the software that came with my camera and P2 Store onto my powerbook G4, which has a PCI slot, and the powerbook sees the cards just fine. Also, if I copy the P2 card as a volume to a DVD, my computer sees the DVD as if it were a P2 card. This is very handy for archiving and importing into FCP.

I want to set up a G5 to see these same DVD archive volumes.

My understanding is that this software also allows you to mount the cam as a firewire device on your desktop.

I'm not certain if the DVD backup will act as a p2 card volume.

Best way to find out is to give it a try.

Yes.

Yes, but you'll need a device that can read the card. That would be the camera itself (in 1394 device mode) or a PCI->PCMCIA slot adapter or the 5-slot Panasonic P2 reader, or the P2 Store.
