At last, the Panasonic promo DVD came....

I guess good things are worth waiting for...

The HVX-200 Promo DVD came today from Panasonic and I've only had a chance to look at a little of it. I expected to get just a short DVD talking about the HXV-200, BUT this thing is that PLUS WMV-9 HD files, the Camera Manual, Camera Tour, P2 white paper, HVX-200 guide book, a music video shot on the HVX, ... and that's just DVD number 1. On DVD #2, we have P2 footage for editing, the P2 viewer, and HD Logger demo.

Good thing the El Camino College school semester just ended, so I have time to look this over. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) Thank you to Jan.

Anyone else get theirs?

I got mine and was very impressed. It was so much more than I expected. Jan, tell the folks at Panasonic, "job well done". I'm sure it will help you sell a lot more hvxs. (as if you needed that). I just regret laying out all the money I did for a short 35 minute hvx training video that wasn't half what this is.

yes I'm very happy that theres lots of content on the Discs but...

I was disappointed in that I was hoping it would be something I could show Clients/producers and get them excited/ok with shooting P2 and the HVX-200

I was hoping for a wow reel Expecaily in the Independent/Narrative section. and the music video did show how good the HVX can key but seemed lacking in every other way...

Questions

1. Was all the footage from the HVX-200? I thought the Olympics was from the 800?

2. why compare the HDV footage with the DVX100a? although It did make a good point. (someone watching it said why get the new camera you old ones looks good enough)

3. what was the Begging 3 shots (the crane or Spydercam footage of the race car)....what was that shot on?...the shadow and highlights held real well and it was the best looking footage of the whole disc...

I did like the comparison of P2 cost to HD tape...

I wish it showed how well the HVX-200 shoots timelapse/stop animation

thought the begging really pushed News gathering but I guess thats where the moneys at.

I felt in the end I would have to tell a producer that watched it that the camera can do better then this...

Is the video program the same thing they were handing out back at RESFest a year ago (busines woman at her desk tries to sedutively sell you on P2 among other things), or is it a new production? Jan mentiond a "version 2" would be coming out a lonnnng time ago, but I'd still be interested to see what they've put together if there's something new on it.

Yes, it's the same disc basically. Most of the footage was actually taped with VariCam.
I have sent many e-mails to jan asking why they won't consider a new demo especially with all the fantastic HVX footage available. It would cost a few grand to edit a new HVX demo that can show the absolute startling difference between HVX and HDV that all the HDV'ers cannot see. (There are the original posted videos that Barry and Jarred shot, included on disc two as files)

Yeah, that's pretty much what she had said they were going to do a long time ago... I'm not sure what happened with that project. Maybe she took off with Toth in the middle of the night! :-P

My guess is that since the camera is out, since there's enough footage available on the different forums for people to judge what it looks like in a myriad of situations, and since the demand is still high, there's not a whole lot of reason to go back and make a new "official" demo disc. The films people are making and the commercials that they're shooting have kinda become that "official" footage, and since we can share those things with each other quite easily these days, a need for a separate "corporate" version isn't as necessary.

Still, it would've been interesting to see what they would have shot if they had decided to do something.

WHAT! HVXGUY! Are you serious the footage in the promo was NOT shot with the hvx? I just inferred it would be. I feel a little cheated. Jan I take back all the nice things I've been saying about Panasonic and I am lowering them two notches on my best friends list. What kind of message does that send? A company does a promo dvd on their new miracle camera and uses another camera to film it? Not to worry though, panasonic, in four days I'll get over this and forgive you because of all the good times I've had with my DVX100a. (speaking of which, using the dvx100a for the comparison rated really high on the "Wierd" charts. I hope whoever dreamt that up gets a cut in pay.)

Hehe, down Scrappy. :)

When they first released the DVD it was literally a year ago... and the HVX didn't even exist yet. That's why they shot it with the Varicam - they could still explain the P2 workflow, variable framerates, and a bunch of the other things you could do with the camera without actually using HVX footage. You're right... it's a bit misleading, but at the time there was no HVX... so people were more forgiving (that was when some people were still calling the HVX vaporware... just like some people think about Red today)...

It's definitely time for a "Version 2" of that disc with real HVX footage, and Jan said that would be available months ago. My guesses as to why it hasn't materialized are listed in my post above.
