Can the 13" Macbook edit HVX200 footage?

Hello all,

Has anyone used the 13" Macbook to cut any DVCPRO HD footage in FCP from a HVX200?...

If so, what was the performance like? I dont expect it to be as good as a G5 tower but was the Macbook handling the footage at a reasonable speed?...

Thanks...

Thanks for the link..

I read all the pages & Jarred said he was going to do some tests with DVCPRO HD footage but I couldn't see any answer from him...

Any idea if it can handle DVCPRO HD, and if so can it do it at a reasonable speed?..

it can handle DVCPRO HD... just a quick tip though... when playing DVCPRO HD clips in QuickTime Player, it will default to playing at 'High Quality' - the clip will drop frames.

if you go to "Show Movie Properties" in the Window menu, choose the video track, and in 'visual settings' uncheck "High Quality", you will see an almost imperceptible quality difference, but the clip will playback at full frame rates with no issues...

Final Cut plays with 'High Quality' off by default and when paused, shows the full res frame...

but, yes, the Macbook can handle DVCPROHD just fine.

What about on the PC boot... has anyone ran windows media encoder for live webstreaming on the macbook? That is why I need and want to buy it. I have a series of webcasts to do in the WMV fomat... and I'd like to do it on the macbook and forget bringing out the PC tower...

Anyone using the macbook with windows and using the WME or the suite?

i think youll be hard pressed to find anyone who bought a mac actually encoding anything to WMV, whether on windows or os x. You are pretty much ostrocizing(sp?) the Mac society since WMV support was dropped by windows in favor of a shoddy Flip4Mac free player thats not offiicially final for intel.

if im reading correctly, correct me if im not, that you will make you stuff on mac only to encode it for windows players only?

I'll second Flip4Mac - don't have a mb but I've used it on ppc for the last year and half. Never had an issue with clients on pc's.

By the way, I've been editing DVCProHD on a Dual 1.25 G4 Tower, and its never been a problem. The MacBook is WAY more powerful than my Tower, so don't sweat it. The DVCProHD codec is so efficient, you'll never know you're editing anything bigger DV.

it works with a powerbook g4.. i've been cutting with it no problem so why wouldn't it work with a macbook..

cynic... I'm not abandoning mac... Just simply that my State of Florida DOE client wants to publish a webcast in WMV... so I have to do it through WME and stream it to my server that way. This is for a live webcast.. live encoding.. I love my Mac and quicktime, but I"m forced by the client to do WMV... so I was happy to see the macbook and hoping it will fit the bill. I'd hate to have to buy a dual core PC just for this one client... and the macbook, well that would just be the coolest....
