I'm buying one, but I have some questions.

Hey guys, I'm about to take the plunge and get an HVX, but I need to know some things. Does the firestore work and is it the right choice for me as a wedding videographer? Is the firmware up to date? What all do I need to film in HD, edit in HD, then down convert to SD and burn a SD DVD? Will FCP 5.?.? run it?

Thanks guys!

if your main gig is weddings....this camera may not be for you.
The Sony HDV may serve your needs better...it has better low light sensitivity and is cheaper to operate.

Well, I film weddings, but I want the camera for personel use. This is the camera I am getting, I just need to know what all I need to run a productive setup. So am I correct in thinking that all I need is the camera and the firestore to have the ability to edit in HD on a Mac G5 running FCP Studio 5.1

With the firestore or cineporter, long form will work including weddings. Going from 720/24pn to SD DVD looks great.

Not the best low light cam, however.

You need to work on lightning, which for weddings may be a challenge

The XL1s (My current camera) has a minimum 5.5 Lux ans the HVX (The camera I ordered) has a minimum of 3 Lux. So is it correct to say that it performs better in low light than the XL1?

Also, weddings are not really my thing. I'm still in college so it helps to make 15-20 per year, but there is not enough of a market to make it into a career. Movie making is my passion...weddings just let me make movies.

It's done...but 2-5 weeks for shipping! Why me?

I was fortunate. I first saw the camera at HD Expo back in March in Los Angeles. Honestly, I wasn't aware of its existence until then. My intent was to check out the HD100, and some ARRI 16 gear elsewhere. The Panasonic booth was swamped. Folks were swarming over the HVX. The next day I went to AVS. They had two in stock. They let me play with one in the shop for a while. I flew back home and stewed on the idea of purchasing the HVX for two more days. I checked with B & H. They had none in stock at that point. AVS still had one available which became my unit overnight.

By the way, once you go with P2, there's no turning back.

well, you could shoot DV on P2 for your weddings...that would give you plenty of footage....somewhere around 80 minutes with 2 8 gig cards.

That is true, but I really want to use HD content so that I can give an HD DVD to the client later once it is playable, but downconvert to SD for now.

Downconverted DVCProHD 720/24pn looks fabulous on a SD DVD.

I would have said "awesome" but that word no longer has any meaning. :-)
