say no to P2 and thank you CITIDISK

when 32Gig P2 cards appear, I believe these solutions will disappear. Unless of course, they can offer extremely better price than P2 card solution.

One really lousy thing about CITIDISK is that there is no display on it, just a couple of blinking lights, very frustrating. I've used them before and would not recommend it to anyone even though I am cheap.

You get what you pay for. The FS-100 has menus, has disk and clip repair functions, can be configured in a variety of ways which means is more flexable and can protect your data better. Citidisk, from what I've recently been learning from "insiders", well, the folks at Citidisk are flaky and make cheap products. Having used the FS-100 for three weeks now, I wouldn't cut corners to get a Citidisk. The lack of troubleshooting, configuration, and bad data repair utilities, I just wouldn't trust the work I get "paid" by clients to do on a Citidick solution. I'm really afraid of the unreliable simplistic design of the unit.

Half the price of an FS-100, but when your data is currupted, and you have no utility to salvage it (built into the unit), no way to trouble shoot it when it malfunctions, no inidcation of how much recording time you have left, nor how much battery life ou have, well, you really will be up the creek when your client says, "What happened to the footage I paid you money to get for me?" Citidick will just say, "We don't have any idea what happened to your unit, mail it in for service we'll charge you for."

At least Focus engineers can trouble shoot your unit over the phone and determine exactly what's wrong before you agree to dish out more cash to get it repaird (especially when all you had to do was "reset" the unit, which Citidick can not do).

It's a cheap product for a cheap price. I pay my house notes off my work, it's not a professional level solution, I won't touch it.

All good points.
I have sort of discarded the FireStore for now for pretty much the same reasons - in favor of P2 and DtD recording when I need long capture times.

But I'm quick to reconsider! -;)

I'd love to hear more good news about firestore.

god no. The Citidisk is an accident waiting to happen. The only useful thing the citidisk is good for is to use as a self powered offloading drive with the camera, I currently use their DV version just for that.

I would never, ever however trust it for recording. I used too, but had way too many issues with it, not recording etc. Firestore at least tells you you have recorded. I would choose the P2 store over the citidisk any day of the week.

Granted, this is just my opinion, and maybe citidisk got it together with this product, but as someone said, blinking lights are not the way i wanna record things.

I spent some time on the phone with the CitiDisk folks and I wasn't too reassured. I am keeping an open mind, though.

I spent some time with the CitiDisk people at NAB and have sent several follow up emails regarding availability to test a unit for an article I am writing. The absence of response so far tells me that they really don't have anything to show at the moment.

Yep, when I spoke with them they had very little information to offer. In fact, I hate to say it, but the rep I spoke with did not even seem to know much about this product at all.

P2 and P2 Store Rule!!!

With FCP Studio, pretty damned good.

Aside here:
You wouldn't believe the 15 minute thunderstorm I caught the other day. The audio alone knocks your socks off (AT 4073a helped). My dog runs off when I play the clip.

Back to P2.
I see no reason to wish for anything else (unless it's 16 and 32 gig cards), Christ, at 24pN I get 10 min out of a 4 gig card, and at that rate the Store holds two hours.
