Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

Hi,

Yes the Book is still included however, it may not be in the box when you get the camera. Follow the instructions in the box if it is not there and the book will follow along in a week or so.

Best,

Jan

OK, thanx. We're getting the HVX @ late Fall, but we have a big gig 1st week of June and my partner's willing to buy twice. I told him he'll need to put the HVX order in @ 6 months in advance, hopefully you'll have some left.

I posted this response in another thread, but thought it was also appropriate here:

Do not buy from ZoomMania - unless you want a gray market camera and unusable accessories.

I made the mistake about a month ago. First, you won't be able to buy the camera alone (after clicking 'buy it' the item is unavailable). You'll need to add a package.

Here is why I made the mistake. After reading the ZoomMania listing carefully it states, "This product is brand new, factory fresh, and includes a full one year USAwarranty plus all manufacturer supplied accessories." In the company's warranty info page it states, "USA means that we purchased the camera from the company's representative here in the USA. Therefore the manufacturer's warranty is applicable." THIS IS NOT TRUE. Serial Number did not match up with Panasonic USA (per Jan).

They also advertise, "This latest version also comes standard with Magic Bullet edit software and an instructional DVD production book." (which I assumed was Barry's Book.) These are items that should come with the Panasonic USA DVX. THIS IS NOT TRUE. Looks like they just cut and pasted from another site.

I took an educated chance that the camera was legit and bought the camera with travel package (asked for and got a 4 year extended warranty.) For $3150, I got the camera, a four year extended warranty, an extra battery, a hard carrying case and extras. The battery was junk, the hard carrying case was okay, everything else was useless.

On top of it all, the box had been previously opened and carefully re-tapped. The UPC sticker was missing. And there was no warranty card/info inside the box.

I considered the whole thing fraud and demanded my money back including free shipping charges back. After a lot of back and forth - I got it.

I've read on this site that some are okay with lower priced gray market product because it "originates from the exact same place," but the whole thing makes me nervous. Who knows if was returned, handled properly, etc.

I hopes this helps. I am now deciding on where to buy my camera. I live in LA and will probably go with EVS or Abel Cine, however B+H currently has a NAB 2006 sale price of $2900 after the $400 rebate. I also read about a possible MSRP price reduction soon, but who knows.

After all this, I think I'm going to buy from EVS (even though Rush, who I read was awesome, is gone). I'll also be renting from EVS.

Bottom line, don't buy from ZoomMania.
Sorry for the long message.

So in short, if it comes w/ the ME software adn dvx book/dvd, it is the US model and will qualify for a rebate?

I ordered the AG-DVX100Bp from B & H on Monday last week and received the camera (manufactured in April) on Thursday. The price was $3,449 plus $35 shipping which included a free soft case. The Panasonic $400 rebate was still on offer and a book is promised later. I ordered a 5 hour battery ($149) and was pleased to receive the new 10 hour battery at no extra charge.

I wonder if any of the really big authorized dealers would be interested in supporting a group buy from DVXUser.com members. We do this fairly frequently @ AR15.com (I shoot everything ... DV ... guns ... DV of others shooting guns ...).

We setup a deal with the dealer - X amount of time to round up X number of buyers for a specific item to help bring the price down per unit. To make it a little smoother for the dealer, one person typically handles the transaction as a single buyer, then distributes the purchase to everyone that was in on the Group Buy.

Takes a little longer for the individual to get the item (goes to the ONE purchaser, then he/she mails it to the individual buyers), but the savings are usually more than worth it.

newegg.com an authorized dealer?

newegg.com an authorized dealer?

newegg.com is offering the newly introduced $350 rebate. Are they authorized. Their price is $3199 before the rebate. No tax.

newegg has been a pretty reputable website.

Thanks!

Newegg isn't authorized but I bought my camera from them 2 weeks ago and already got the DVD/book software package (the old rebate) and am waiting for my check in the mail.

Stay Away From Boro Park In Brooklyn

Avoid at all costs -- any dealers in Brooklyn, Boro Park or nearby areas. As most of us know the majority of them are scam artists and con men. What most of us do not know, unless you are from this part of New York City is that complaining to Eliot Spitzer's office -- the attorney general of NY will do you absolutely no good, as the majority of these scam artists are Hasidic Jews, who have a huge political power stronghold over the politics of New York City, from Spitzer's office all the way to our billionaire mayor's desk. I am not a racist by any means (also Jewish), so I know what this secretive criminal community is up to. Do yourself a favor, put these criminals out of business and buy your electronics at trusted dealers, not off the back of a stationwagon parked in the driveway of a mock "temple". These people do NOT pay taxes and contribute NOTHING to the community outside of their own. BOYCOTT BORO PARK!:thumbdown

I'm from NYC and it's sad how these Stores in BROOKLYN SCAM people. I wish everyone knows about these con artists and NOT BUY FROM ANY STORES which is located in Brooklyn. If you want to buy any Camcorder, Camera, TV etc. Please go to a reputable dealer and check to make sure the place is especially not from Brooklyn.

You may have been lucky. It is not a guarantee. I just looked up a serial number for a customer that bought from Costco, and it was gray, so in my estimation an authorized dealer is still the best avenue.

I just bought DVX100B from Great Northern Video ($3350 before rebate).

When I called Robin on Tuesday, they didn't have any new cameras in stock, so she ordered a new one. She also lowered the price from $3,383 to $3,350. The camera came today, they called me immediately, I drove to Pembroke, NH and picked it up.

The whole process was very positive experience. There was no pressure at all and no attempts to sell me more stuff.

However, they don't sell extended warranty. Any suggestions where can I buy one?

Here is their address and phone numbers:

Great Northern Video
702 Riverwood Drive
Pembroke, NH 03275
(603) 228-0412
(603) 225-5435
www.greatnorthernvideo.com

The phone numbers are taken from my bill :), and I am not sure if the second one is the fax number.

I've bought from both EVS and B&H. EVS has much better customer service, probably because they are smaller and more tight knit. At B&H, they had to transfer me around a lot and this one guy named Barry couldn't understand when I asked him repeatedly "did you include the tripod in my order?" He thought I was talking about a boom pole, and tried to convince me that they're not called tripods. However, I have found B&H is a little cheaper for tapes, tripods, and sound gear. But in the end, EVS is my favorite. Shop there and you'll have no worries.

I'm very happy to note that i just joined this site...and as of today i ordered my own DVX100B from Willoughbys...it should be in my posession in about 3 days...i can't wait because it'll arrive just in time for me to leave for Northwestern University where i'll study film and video for a good 5 weeks...you better belive i'll be on this site every day.

Welcome aboard, TheCrimsonRob! Hopefully you'll be able to share some of your experiences from NU with the rest of us. I'm always eager to learn :)

I am about to order my DVX100B. I have decided to order from NewEgg since they have the lowest price (according to my research). I understand the risk associated with newegg since they are not an authorized dealer however the price is so good that I am willing to take the risk.

Has anyone have any latest NEW experience dealing with NewEgg?

How good is the manufacturer’s warranty that comes with the Camera?

Is buying an Extended warranty a good idea? If yes, where can I buy one?

Thank you all very much.

The point of going with an unauthorized dealer is that you may not get *any* manufacturer's warranty.

Well, more accurately, there will be a warranty but it may be in China or Canada or Japan or someplace else. In other words, if it's a gray-market product you will have no warranty coverage in the US.
