Assuming you want to et the $400 rebate, you have to cut out the UPC, Serial ...etc. I dont think Costco will allowed you to return the cam with a those info missing on the box.

cost will take returns without the package....

Because the camera ships directly from Japan to the dealer it is not possible to include the DVX Book and Magic Bullet in the box...So we put a letter in the box telling folks where to register their camera and thus receive the book and the software.

So even though Costco isn't an authorized dealer, it sounds like I'd still get the rebate [advertised on their web site] and promo goodies [dvx book, software, etc.] if I purchased from them. Cool.

Do the Costco's carry the DVX100's in the store or is it a online order thing.
I'd like to know as well. Also, I wanta DVX100a instead of the B, for cost issues, I wonder if costco has the A's?

Heh, just tried going to the Costco website and they are "temporarily unavailable". Too many dvxusers hitting the site? :)

I would rather doubt it. The 100A was discontinued back at the end of September and a couple of key dealers purchased all the remaining inventory. Based on the rebates I see, there are not that many if any left.

Best,

Jan

This item is covered by Costco's guarantee to refund your purchase price if you are not completely satisfied. Costco's guarantee applies, even though this item may not be covered by the manufacturer's warranty, because Costco is not an "authorized" dealer of the merchandise.

I think that means there's no limit to how long they'll honor a warranty?

Costco price is the same as B&H and Amazon. You can get it at $3199 at Newegg.com.

I'd still go w/ Costco over newegg because of the return policy/peace of mind.

I would double check this with Costco... but as far as MOST items go you get a free LIFETIME extended warranty!

I know this doesn't apply to computers... but there's a good chance that it would apply to the DVX... and in the case of Costco that often times means that if you have a problem with the camera you don't get it repaired... you get either a refund OR a brand new one!

In that respect Costco ROCKS!

Hi folks,

I just had a customer give me a serial number from a Costco purchase and it was a gray market camera, so proceed carefully.

Best,

Jan

Please note, as of November 4th, 2002 , the return policy for all desktop and
notebook computers are six months from the date of purchase. Six months after purchase, all computer services and technical support will be subject to the applicable remaining manufacturer’s warranty.

well i am sold. I may have to pay tax but like someone said earlier, Costco is the return policy. Months down the line if I am not satisfied, I can return it for a full refund. Amazing.

I do recall a story awhile ago on how Costco atained its goods, and it was almost always not from the manufacturer.. thats why they got the good stuff, they bought up grey market items etc.

So Jan's right.. be careful, and I would really drill them about the warranty if you decide to go that route, and your probally not going to get the rebate extras.

I was going to just buy a used 100b off someone locally for a couple hundred cheaper, but this way I can get a brand new one with the option to return it any time for a full refund.

Am I missing anything? I think I am going to be ordering/picking one up later this week!

Sorry I keep bumping this thread, but I just spoke to a costco rep and he said the costco return policy covers it. I am getting one this week, so excited! I'd recently sold my XL1s and was feeling empty without something to shoot with.

Thanks for the info. A few years ago I had a Canon Elura 2 that had to be mailed away to be fixed 3 times in 1 year. Yes, it fell under the warranty, but it was a HUGE hassle! Also, at a certain point I was gunshy about using it, half-expecting to see a "remove cassette" error whenever I turned it on.

Being able to just return the troublesome thing to Costco would have been a great option to have.

Hey Yardsale,

What are they going to do about the lack of the DVX Book, the Magic Bullet and the Instant HD along with the $350 rebate, and the US warranty? If it is gray market it does not qualify for any of these things and no amount of "they will cover it" will get you these. I don't mean to be in your face but frankly I like to help people solve problems and if it a gray market camera and there is a problem you have taken me out of your support loop as well.

As an example take a look over in the HVX forum under the thread Unhappy Customer. I was able to step in and solve a problem because he bought an authorized product. It is not possible with unauthorized product as the chain of the sale does not connect to Panasonic US. So while this was an exeptional situation, it points to the fact that sometimes you need another person interested in your business.

Best regards,

Jan

First off, I have read many of your comments on this site, and they are all incredibly detailed, helpful and I fully grasp the huge differences from buying authorized and risking grey market (I have years of still photography experience).

Given the situation at hand, if they are willing to advertise a manufactor's rebate online, I think it would be safe to assume the rebate would certainly qualify.

To me, this is like buying a mack warranty, only better. If the camera gives me problems, I am not going to waste time having it repaired, I will simply get a no-questions asked refund.

I think people should weigh the benefits of buying authorized and buying grey market. For some, it's price point that sways them. Others, it is quality of service and peace of mind.
