Getting from HVX to a variety of local HD affiliates

I'm doing some client work that will eventually need to be distributed to the local TV affiliates, in HD of course. So far, it would appear that one stations needs DVCPRO HD tape, using 1080/60i, and another needs HDCAM using 720/60p. I'll be doing some post on a MacBook Pro with Final Cut Pro.

So what are my options for output to these tape formats? I haven't been to rental places or anything like that in years, so is it possible to show up (with an appointment, of course!) and output to their stuff? The DVCPRO HD step sounds easy enough, as I assume most places will have a HD1200A deck with the firewire thing. Beyond that, I don't mind even if it's dubbed via component to HDCAM. I'm not going to get that nutty about keeping it digital.

Does that sound like a reasonable work flow to get dubs out to the stations?

Yes, that's pretty much exactly how it gets done. Either you rent the deck yourself, or you take it to a transfer facility...

Curious though -- you have a local station wanting to broadcast HD? That's pretty much the first I've heard of that. Last I knew there were only about six stations in the US that were broadcasting HD content. They relay the network feeds, of course, but for origination and broadcast of local content, I thought there were only half a dozen who were bothering.

Ever since NBC went to NBC 11 on channel 3 here in the Bay Area, the old NBC affiliate KRON 4 has started broadcasting some local shows in HD, so im gunna tag to see how this plays out. My friend is picking up our HVX tomorrow and we want to start putting it to use ASAP to pay it off.

Our Fox affiliate here in Cleveland has been doing HD news for quite a while, though most of the ENG is still SD. The NBC affiliate just went HD for news, and they're mixing quite a bit at the moment. The CBS affiliate in Columbus is apparently even doing ENG in HD, and they're using HDCAM.

So just as you need some weather radar gimmick (that's big here and in other near by markets), the HD news thing is going to be yet another gimmick that everyone will need to have. And thank God, because there's nothing like seeing just how old the anchors are in glorious high definition!
