Powerbook G4 1.25 GHZ with 1.25 RAM. Trying to open FCP HD project (720 24P)
Running FCP 5.0.4. Project works fine of G5 imac. Now I have to travel and edit on the road. Getting the following error in a pop up window..

CODEC NOT FOUND. You may be using a compression type without the corresponding hardware card.

My thought is that this mac just doesnt have enough processing power. HELP. Do I need to buy a Intel mac or a 1.67 model G4. Leaving WED AM. Must make this happen quickly.

Thanks in advance for you help.

Is it from a project on another mac? Did you have it open in this mac? Is the codec installed on this mac. Did you repair permissions? Is it from a newer version of FCP? There's plenty of processing power.....I do projects all the time on my PBg4 and send the finished projects to a G5. If you're doing things on an Imac G5, it sounds like you need to have FCP 5.1 installed on the PB.
Not sure, but that's all I got with your info.
Just a few things to check out......good luck....post back if you can.

Both Computers are running 5.0.4. The G5 Imac runs fine. It is my assumption that the CODEC is built into 5.0.4. Any more ideas?

Are you using the latest quicktime on your PBG4?
Also is the g5 got a sequence that you're rendering to that's different? Check the sequence settings and make sure it's not rendering to the black magic, aja, or some other codec. You can download any codec from the manufacturers, you just need to know what it's looking for. But my guess is just check the sequence settings and make sure they match.

Using latest QT. It plays audio but no video. Is there anyone else able to edit DVC PRO HD 720 24P on a 1.25 ghz PBG4? I am thinking its the video card that cant process the image. Can anyone tell me if a 1.67 PBG4 will work FOR SURE in FCP 5.0.4

I can tell you for certain that I edit 720 on my pbg4 15" 1.25 from a bus powered drive even with no problem.

The codec not found message is often something that appears when you have a weird graphic that is unsupported, like a CMYK from Photoshop. Best thing to do is make certain that you don't have any wonky files. I am using a 17" G4 Powerbook with P2 and FS-100 and assure you it works. Trash your FCP prefs. Run the 10.4.6 combo updater. Make certain your QuickTime is updated to 7.1.1. You might even want to remove QT Receipts and do a reinstall of QT 7 (download from Apple site; don't use what will come up in software update). But I'm betting you've got an odd file in that project.

How much RAM is in you PBG4?

I've got 1gb.....but I'll bet Ned is right. Sometimes eps files do this, but the CMYK deal does happen. Otherwise there should be nothing that QT can't read, especially coming from an imac....there's no hardware codec that could come into the fray.
