Toshiba/Canon SED-TV - the perfect display for RED?

There doesn't seem to be any discussion regarding the upcoming SED display technology, so here goes. SED has been developed by SED Inc, a joint venture company founded by Toshiba and Canon. SED will most probably be the best candidate as a replacement for big and bulky CRT broadcast monitors.

Features:
- Electron emitter for each COLOR per pixel - 6,220,800 emitters in total. The quality of CRT but without any blooming.
- True 1080P as standard.
- Color decoding profile/matrix by Canon.
- Form factor of LCD/Plasmas.
- Contrast ratio of 100,000:1 - perfect for outdoor use.

As an image-quality freak, this is something I'm really looking forward to. They had a 720P prototype at CES, and apparently it matched/surpassed other 1080P LCD/Plasmas. I can't wait to see the final 1080P model in action next year. More info on SED: http://uk.gear.ign.com/articles/679/679235p1.html

Thanks for the heads up Martin - they look awesome! Still 55" minimum size might be a little bit too big for my daylight viewable Steadicam monitor!! :)

It's not hard to surpass plasma. Anything remotely dark on a plasma winds up looking like a 1-bit image with random diffusion. Terrible.

Anyone know why? I could look it up but I've wasted enough work time on this board already...

Very stupid, but very funny. SED is a very interesting technology though. Be keen to see how it scales, and how the price drops....

I wonder if this technology will ever be jammed into an on board field monitor. Perhaps the "Right SED RED" wasn't such a bad idea after all. I'm curious how RED's LCD will deal with UHD. Matter of fact, I'm curious how anything will deal with UHD. It ought to be interesting to find out!

UHD kinda scared the hell out of me at initial thoughts.. but the NHK demo at NAB this year kinda took those doubts all away. I think just seeing it in action, even being supported by a million dollars worth of equipment, gives most people assurance of the whole UHD prospect.
