HVX-200 M2 YT Footage

Vincent, footage-wise, that was incredible. I loved the colors and camera movements- it was excellent. That orange throughout the outdoors scenes was amazing and I felt sticky with heat and humidity simply by watching it. I second the other sentiments that I hope to one day be able to create the footage you do.

However, I will say as a teaser it did not do too much for me. Maybe this wasn't the intended purpose, but I could barely discern a plot and I had little urge to see more. Visually it was quite stunning, but it did not draw me in. I found camera movements were repetitive and shots like the flames on black and bottle lying on the ground really threw me. Again, perhaps you were only intending to show the quality of the footage, etc. but if you were trying to get me to want to see the movie, it didn't quite work.

The new stickypod Director Should beable to do a good job no ? I know a Single Stickypod is mostly useless for my HVX200...

yes I stand Corected I had no Idea the advancements Sticky pod had been makeing.. I had years ago used I belive a single sticky pod to mount a PD-150 with anamporphic and Matte box to a small Italan car and the results where very shaky.. the director looks promising... but please Safety all car mounts...I still think with the M2 adapter and larger lens your sure bet with the HVX would be a profetional Car mount or even better a proses trailer would be safer...

That trailer made me very jealous, AMAZING work. I cant wait to see the full movie, I'm sure I'll be hearing about it in the future.

yeah I cut it for my demo reel to show off my work before haveing to wait on ADR music etc...but an editor pointed out the same thing the Fire shot in paticular Distracts you Color/speed wise...the Goal of the footage should be for people to want to see more of my work...but the question is if it did tell more story would that get me more work from it?

and then why stop at a trailer perhaps I should show Complete seances? would that be better then just a Montoge

If really good Cinematography is so good its not noticed....ah how do you show that in a reel ...with out not being noticed....

Vincent, if you're demo reel is promoting your cinematography, I think it does a good job of that. The camera motions look great and the footage has a certain feel to it. If you are trying to show your ability to tell a story, I think the scenes would likely be a better idea.

As a demo reel, I think it may improve from a little more organization. Even if you're not telling an entire story, a basic plot that the audience can follow, even for only a portion of the reel, may convey your abilities better. If you somehow begin and end the chase scene with the guy with the gun, if you follow one of the relationships of the couples and provide some resolution, I think your camera movements and look will make a lot more sense, and be "less noticable," but more powerful and meaningful. Repeated dolly shots or random slow motion is fun to watch, but after a time, it gets repetitive. If I had a story I was following, your reel would hold my attention for much longer.

However, if I was looking for a cinematographer, that reel would certainly stick out if not only for the sheer quality of the footage. Again, these are minor critiques, and I only offer them as my opinion and hope that they may be constructive.

Awesome work.

Great work Vince. Don't worry about the storytelling aspect of it. You're a cinematographer after all. Let the director and screenwriter worry about the storytelling. Your main task is to translate their story into gorgeous moving images, which in this case you've done.

I'm a director and I'd hire you in a heartbeat based on that demo. Congrats!

By the way, that look and feel made me think of CRASH MEETS TRAFFIC.

The M2 is awesome and I think it makes the HVX an even better camera. Is there anyone out there still waiting for the G35??? Why?

Absolutely beautiful footage. This is exactly what you want on your reel. If you were in L.A., I'd beg you to DP my feature.

In fact, if I paid your plane fare...

Great Stuff Vince, especially that one of the nurse at the desk. The 35mm adapters lower the contrast and make footage a bit milky, alot of the shots I think you can crush the blacks a bit, but otherwise looks GREAT!!

great work my man!
Good eye for detail and ambience. I totally thought this was a trailer for a movie but like you said you just made it up to show your work as a DP. Well you got me! I'm a writer/director and I already came up with a story after seen your footage using every actor that you featured in your demo. PM me if you wanna know the story. It will make a awesome feature, I'm telling ya!

From what ive seen, it is amazing work - very professional looking.

I read one of the comments about how it didnt tell a story or whatever. Doesnt matter - I think u are a great DP and that is very well portrayed through the shots. I know how difficult it is to use a 35mm lens on video.... and u've mastered it and shot them really well.

I am a director. If you live in the NE and interested in collaborating, i would be very interested.

Excellent work.

that footage was, awesome, ill, sick, rad, pimping, fire,

wow, that was amazing.

the hvx has been pushed at last, like i always say, talent overshadows technology. you r talented welcome to hollywood

Hey Vincent,

Can you walk us through how you did those overhead dolly shots. They are sweet!

One is a cop walking through the hallway. The other looks like a jail cell.

Thanks,
Russ

Can you share any of the storyboards of some of the scenes? I love the lighting and colors and the overall feel of the shoots. How many years have you been working with film? When is it planned to be released? and on dvd or on cinema?
