Is there anything that can be done legaly?

I have read many stories about people getting ripped off by these bait and switch operations involving online sales of camera equipment. Why are these people still in business? I have fallen victim to this myself. Lucky for me I only lost a couple of hundred bucks. It still sucks, but it could of been worse. A lot worse! I was only trying to save a few bucks. Is there anything that the law can do? Does anyone know or have any success stories? I would love to know for future reference.

who ripped you, give us the full story so others will not fall into such traps. This is why internet usergroups are so important.

My situation was with www.royalcamera.com for the AG-DVX100B and an 8 hour battery. They said the camera was on back order a few times until I finally canceled the order and place it again with www.bestpricecameras.com. I had no idea until I read what others went through on this site. I got a battery for a consumer (3600 omh) camera that is worth about $60 us and thay charged me $250 us from Royal. It is to late for me to do anything about this now so I will just cut my losses. Lucky for me they have not charged my credit card yet and I had to call VISA to inform them of the fraud charges that might be placed. They said they will take care of it. Thank god! I can't afford to loose that much. I need to live and pay my bills. It was to bad for me that I found this website a little to late. Beter late then never. It could of been alot worse.

Please read the very first thread on in this section and save yourself a lot of grief.

Thanks for all the help guys.

I bought mine from bestpricecameras.com

Yes, they are all bait and switch, so expect that. You will not get it for the exact "low price" they advertise, but you will get a savings over some of the bigger names. If you are willing to deal with the hassle, the phone calls, and the headaches to save $500-$1000 then it is the way to go.

A few things to look out for:

1) Extended warranty
2) Additional items (i.e. battery and charger)
3) Overpriced insurance
4) A pushy sales person to sell you all this
5) If you only want the camera at the "low price", expect your order to be placed on back order or the order cancelled.
6) Don't expect to just order it online and get it in a few days like with B&H, you will have to "call them" to confrim the order, and that is when the pitch happens.

The easiest way to resolve overcharges is by bringing the credit card company into the mix. File a formal written complaint with the camera company and then with the credit card company.

My original deal was this; a DVX100B for $2199.00. I figured I would pay for the "three day shipping" at $91.00 to sweeten the deal on their end, so that brings the total to around $2300.00. Add in some insurance, overpriced of course at $120, and you are looking a price of around $2420.00 which makes me more than happy. I denied the aditional warranty coverage and accesories and received an invoice for $2700.00.

You do the math.

Anyway, I disputed the charges with them and the credit card company and settled for around $2500.00, and that works out to around $600-$1000 cheaper than the "authorized dealers". If the rebate works out, which I am doubtful of, I am looking at a DV100B for $2100.00, but that may be asking a bit much.

cool, assuming you're not getting grey market stuff.

I have bought from Abe's of Maine with no hassel and at the posted price and recieved my stuff on time without any high pressure sales tactics. At lest with the sales guy I have delt with he offers insurance once and when I decline hes fine with it. I have heard and read lots of bad reports about royal camera. I live in the Seattle area and don't have access to a HVX-200 but want to touch it before I buy one. I hope to find one that I can go try out before I buy.
