I've done a search and Couldn't find much of anything...... How well does the DVX100 transfer to 35mm film? I was thinking about using two DVXs right next to each other, 3D style, to get wideside screen without sacrificing resolution. How could I do this? Firewire to Firewire timecode? How could I view both cameras on one monitor at the same time? I'd need a focus rig, and iris rig to get every thing the same on both cameras. (I would use 35mm lenses.) And maybe a custom made matte box so one box gets both cameras.

I've also come across the Andromeda DVX, what exactly does this give me other then the lovely 4:4:4? If I use this would I have to record to a tape deck, harddrive, what? Even with the Andromeda I'll still want to record with two DVXs......

Wow, filming side by side with two DVX's (especially with the Andromeda mod on both) seems excessive. If you want high resolution widescreen why not just get an HVX? Seems much easier. Trying to completely match focus and aperture settings (not to mention the EXACT same lens to lens distance on each shot) just seems unnecessarily complicated.

Yeah.... I guess I'm just trying to cut cost for my feature.....
I need 800k which I can't find anywhere.

The Andromeda wouldn't help much there though.

Is the Andromeda Mod available to the HVX to get 4:4:4 on it?

No, the Andromeda mod only applies to the DVX at this time. Maybe they'll do something like this to the HVX, but I haven't heard of any plans to do so. You'd be much better off with a single HVX than two DVX's in the configuration you described. Especially if your budget is $800K.

Is this the feature that was going to be shot on 6 varicams? My advice is get a DP if you have an 800k budget, they should be able to tell you what the most effective way to shoot is.

That's actually the last thing I want to do. I could never handle somebody coming up with camera movement or lighting. I'm really controlling when it comes to the look, I prefer basically to do everything. Sets, Camera Operation (when I'm not in a scene.), Directing, Producing, Editing, Audio Mix, even some Effects; I'm even playing one of the main characters.

wow seriously? And you get anything done? or done well? how can you be camera man, director, and actor in a scene? where did you come up with $800k? do you have any previous work we can see?

and btw, the dual dvx approach for higher rez is a pretty horrible idea. sry

I have a previous project (from two years ago, shoot with a Consumer Camera, with no lighting, since most of it was outside, and no locations locked down; but it turned out decent for a no-budget shoot. Absolutely $0 dollars spent.) but I have to remove copyrighted music before I can put it online...... I guess I'll put up a link to my budget too.

cool, although why remove the music? no one here cares, and no ones going to send you a cease and decis just because they saw ur movie online. Post that sucker

There seem to be some flags going up here. I don't mean to rain on your parade or diss on your professionalism, but the situation sounds a little odd. You want to direct, DP, and be one of the main characters? On a feature with a budget of $800K? Sounds like you might want to rethink a few things. Although many of us start out making films on our own and we're control freaks (mainly because we HAVE to do everything) there is a time when you step back and build your team. You CANNOT do everything and do it well. Well, let me back up. I'll be a little more optimistic. The odds are against you doing so many major things and doing them well. You can't run faster than you have strength. You may want to recruit a good and trusted crew before proceeding. Just a suggestion.

I will take it a little further - you CANNOT do all those things and do them well. Its not possible with the number of hours in a day and the amount of energy in a person.

The sign of a great filmmaker is not how much they can do, but how well they can build and manage a project and a team to support their creative vision.

my 2 cents

Oh no no no no folks.... he doesn't have 800k to spend on an hvx, or a dp, or whatever. He is proposing a budget of 800k. That and he doesn't want anyone to mess with his camera work.

Soooo, i don't see any problem in you raising 800k..

But hey i can't say ****, because its been done before. Check out tripple threat Caveh Zahedi writting/directing/staring in his movies, the latest 'i am a sex addict'. Everything has an audience.

I understand that you love your project, your movie is your baby and you don't want anyone to screw it up. But the ultimate goal is to make this and be able to go on to make other films. Putting your self a million in the hole with someone else's money to feed your narcissism is not the right plan.

while everything said is accurate, nobody knows this guy. He may be brilliant and fully capable.

I would really like to see the short, but not only is trying to find a host for an 8 min movie that's 1 gig very unlikely, but no one is going to wait to download it. You gotta compress that baby. It should be around 50mb i imagine.

As far as doing everything yourself, you really gotta pick between Director and DP. I wouldn't recommend it, but I've seen Directors act in their movies enough to know that it's possible, but adding DP duties means the time needed for each set up will go up exponentionaly, and no doubt the quality of each job will suffer. So if your going to do more than 1 job, choose 2 instead of 3. Or go ahead and prove us wrong, i'm really curious.

And this surprises you? You're 17, with one 8 minute short on your resume and you expect someone to plunk down $800,000 so you can do a one man show? Raising money with a track record can be difficult. With no track record...well, unless you've got a rich relative... Wait! I know, I just saw The Producers... :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I'm not saying you can't do what you want, but I think it's time for a reality check. Take a look at what you're trying to do. If someone is going to invest that kind of money in you, they are going to be looking for some kind of return on their investment, which means what you produce is going to have to get a decent (for low budget indie "film") distribution deal. Now, if you already have something lined up in the distribution area, you've got the payback covered. Do you?

There's absolutely nothing wrong with having big dreams. But with your head in the clouds, I would recommend that you make sure your feet are firmly planted on the ground (in reality). You have to be able to dream to make something like this happen, but you must also understand the reality of what you're doing.

Good luck...

wow, didn't know you were still in high school. I assumed with the numbers you were throwing around you had a lot more under your belt than just the one 8min short.

if you wanna continue with this plan, your really setting yourself up for disaster. Use all your skills to make a couple more shorts and get them into festivals. Not only will it be easier to get backing for your feature, but you will have a LOT more experience.

I've done 2 music videos and 3 shorts now, and everytime I plan my next project I look back at everything I've learned and come up with something I know I can handle. And everytime I've killed myself trying to just barely get it to all come together in the end. And while I'm proud of my work, everything I've done has not met my original expectation of what it was supposed to be.

I too write, direct, light, photograph, and edit my projects (I don't act) so I know how that goes. Please consider making a couple outstanding shorts first before really regretting screwing up your first feature and owing a lot of ppl a lot of money,

Video is uploading.

and I've had a load more experience than just this...... It's just this is the only video I still have. I shot 10 different live bands at a county fair last summer, a TV spot for the fair....... All my school does is put on showcase after showcase (preforming arts school.) and I've filmed 20 out of the 25 of them. I've been there 3 years, so that's about 60 to 75 showcases that I've covered. Dance showcases a pretty hard to cover with two cameras, last Thrusday I filmed one and the other camera guy, being a freshmen, and not paying attention, it all fell to me; With a DVCPro camera, having to pan and zoom to cover things (since I was standing on the left of the tripod, I had to have my left across my body on the handle for the tripod and the right up on the zoom.)

I've done two other shorts, just don't have them anymore.
