HVX200 and Firestore Users

Hi,

We have a magazine that is looking to talk with a couple of customers about this, please PM me if you have the time to talk.

Thanks,

Jan

HI again, Jan

So far so good as well for Videography. Focus is sending me on-camera mount for Firestore which will have me feeling a lot more secure about it.

Ned

Ned,

Please note that mounting the Firestore on the handle will result in the on camera microphone recording the vibration of the the HDD in the Firestore. It is not the best solution. There is another mount that will fit under the camera which I feel is downright wonderful called the jimmybox, see it here: www.jimmybox.com.

Best,

Jan

Thanks, Jan

And thanks for the email as well.

Definitely stands to reason that on-board microphone will pick up fan noise from FS. I look forward to testing the jimmybox.

Last Friday, I received my FS-100 from my Panasonic dealer. Last Wednesday I shot a 2-hour presentation with the FS-100 set on DVCPRO50 through my DVX200. It worked beautifully! Since it was my first time using it, I also shot on DV tape as a backup precaution...just in case. I won't need the tape... the captured Firestore footage is so easy to work with and playback is without any quality degradation. Tomorrow I have a project that will call for me to test the DVCPRO HD setting. I'm feeling pretty confident that this little black box is going to perform quite well... but I'll still roll some DV tape as backup until I have more projects under my belt.

wow great to hear you had a good experience Theatrix.. let me know how it goes for you today after shooting with it HD.

Also... I already use my hot shoe camera handle mount for my wireless mics, so I purchased the base plate with rails, double mount with rails and a Noga arm through Zacuto Films in Chicago. This option works extremely well. Though it adds more weight to the camera setup so... with a tripod, it's great. I have yet to take this set up hand held, but it should serve to work well for short periods of time.

I have a Zacuto rig coming to test. I can hardly wait. Planning on using it shooting a car dealer commercial with a friend. It really stood out at NAB and I am hoping to highlight it in one of my articles. It is impressive the company as well seems terrific.

I'm using the Zacuto rig as well and have had nothing but great experiences with it. I definitely recommend it.

So do I understand correctly that the Firestore product is out, being used, and successfully for everyone? Seeing the FS-100 at DVEXPO is the reason I decided on the HVX vs. Canon. I've done a few jobs with the HVX and the clients LOVE the footage! Im ready to pickup a FS-100 first thing Monday if they are good to go.

Where is the best deal on them?

thanks,
td

I'm wrapping up our tests with the HVX200, FS-100, CineSaddle, this weekend for Event DV magazine. There are several things that make the FS-100 great, and questionable. Way too loud to mount on the handle as Focus has us doing now. And the Mac specific info in the FS-100 User Manual is way off. They need to hire someone who actually knows how Macs work.

Feel free to contact me off-board for more info. Tomorrow morning (May 22) I start finishing up my review for Event DV.

Hi BenB,

Please note, we do not recommend that the camera mount kit is used when the onboard HVX200 mic is being used. Also, we have had an updated FCP/FS-100 workflow white paper on our website for a couple weeks now under the FAQ section. You can get to it at http://www.focusinfo.com/support/faq_topics.asp ...navigate to FS-100 and then select the third FAQ down.

I did send you an email offline...drop me an email when you get a chance. Thanks,

Matt McEwen
Focus Enhancements

yes.. the manual that came with the original firestore is, well, a little weak to say the least. However, the updated one is excellent.

TheratrixMP, how are you recording Pro 50 to Firestore and Pro25 to tape simulaltaneously???? What are the camera/firestore settings. Others on this site say it can't be done. Thanks!!!!

Yes, the FS-100 can record DVCPRO HD output, (50 is grouped in this setting) while the camera is recording SD to tape. The FS-100 manual wasn't much help to me either, so I had to talk to many folks at Focus in order to get the right setup. (Phil's great over there!) Here's what you need to do if you are using the HVX200 and FS-100... From the FS-100 "Home Page", click the left arrow once to display the Control Menu. In this screen, select FA-Sync. Your Home Page screen "A" button will now show "Sync". ("B" will show Display and "C" needs to show "Lock") The HVX200 camera will automatically set your DV control to "On", which will allow for your FS-100 to record DVCPRO-HD or 50 and your camera to record SD to tape.
