MXF file into Avid Xpress pro, Need Help....

Hi All,
I just received my HVX, shot some footage and now I am trying to get it into Avid and need some help. I watched the tutorial on the Avid website but didn't really help.

Here is the situation. I just bought the G-Raid and connected it to the system. Then, I mounted the camera and got the P2 cards to show up as drives. I'm being told that the MXF files should be copied into the Avid media files folder. I don't see that folder in the New Drive. How do I get such a folder established?

Then, once it is in that folder, how do I get the MXF files to appar in the specific project? Will all MXF files always reside in this Media folder and if so, you then have to select the ones imported into a bin every time?

Thanks
Art

Avid may generate these for you, but:

From the root of your storage drive make a directory "Avid MediaFiles" (note the space between Avid and MediaFiles . . . and use caps as you see them here).

Then make a subdirectory (from there) called "MFX"

Finally, make a subfolder (from MFX) called "1"

drag your video & audio files in and you should be good to go. You can add additional sub-directories, i.e., "2" "3" etc., etc. for other projects. I do, it helps my organization. I am sure others may use a different approach.

Then, once it is in that folder, how do I get the MXF files to appar in the specific project? Will all MXF files always reside in this Media folder and if so, you then have to select the ones imported into a bin every time?

After starting your project select from the menu bar "Tools" then "media tool" and drag your selections to the bin. The next time you start your project those will still be in the bin (but they are really just referenced . . . the files actually reside in the folder you imported them to before starting the Avid).

Just another quick question. On the P2 card, the video is stored in a video folder and the audio in an audio folder. When copying to an external drive to use in Avid, do you keep them seperate or copy both video and audio into the MXF subfolder (1, 2, 3 etc...) without additional Video and audio subfolders? Thanks

Copy the combined Video/Audio MXF files into ONE folder under the Avid MediaFiles/MXF/1 . . . then under 2, then under 3 and so on and so forth. So, copy them without the additional subfolders as Avid will automatically connect the audio to the video when viewing Master Clips.

BTW, thanks all for posting your solutions. The workflow would be a trial/error hell without this forum. Question.

I've got two days of shooting. First day of shooting went into Avid. 2nd day I put in Avid MediaFiles/MXF/1 (Maybe should of put it in subfolder 2) and it wouldn't come up in media tool. So I organized the P2 in FS100 and tried again. After that, 2nd day of shooting went into avid, but replaced first day.

After every a shoot, should I organize P2 and format the FS100?

And how do I fix my problem? I'm guessing the files are being named the same.
