DVX100b no longer w/ Barry Green Book & software?

Just wanted to say thanks for the help and feedback. Definitely glad I'm still getting that stuff, but am a bit disappointed it won't be here for a while. I'm the kind of person who doesn't think he has something until he has the 3rd party instructional guide/DVD. But I'll take a little late over never any day.

So, is the $400 rebate no longer offered? I've combed through all the paperwork in the box, looked through the website, but can't find anything about it.

Not sure which website you are talking about.
http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webap...14569&modelNo=AG-DVX100B&surfModel=AG-DVX100B

On this website it still talks about the $400 rebate. If you have an authorized unit there is either the DVX Book and the Magic Bullet in the Box, or a piece of paper that sends you off to a website to register the camera. On that website it talks about the rebate and registering for the book. Please do not post that website address or else all registration will be by snail mail.

At any rate the $400 rebat is still on to the end of this month. Question for you guys that are reading this. Should I continue the rebate? I am thinking it is getting boring, but am curious what do you guys think? Is it an incentive? Would you prefer something else? Let me know.

TGIF,

Jan

I think it is an incentive. It lets you get a tripod or something without negotiating with your siginificant other to spend $400 on top of the couple of thousand you just spent :)

Cash may be boring but its hard to beat. I can see from a marketing point, however, that after a while a rebate isn't news.

What else might you offer? An extended after market warrenty perhaps? I think some of the longer good ones cost around $350 or so.

Interesting.

Something else? I'm not good at thinking up stuff like that. But I have to say, I'm not a rebate guy - I've not sent in for close to $1000 in rebates in the past 12 months, but $50 here and there I dont care to wait for. (I'm retarded.) But that $400 rebate is sweet. I bought the cam not factoring that into the purchase (I went to the store to buy an XL2, EVS sold me on the 100B) and didnt even think about the rebate for the 2 months it took to arrive, and when it came, it was like Christmas and back to EVS I went to buy more stuff.

Was it the deciding factor in buying the cam? No. The cam was the deciding factor, but the $400 check guaranteed I'm now a Panny fan and I've already bought another Panny Camcorder and and looking at other Panny equipment.

Did I make any sense? Probably not, but I think I just voted to keep the rebate.

So maybe I do a different rebate and then try to finagle the Instant HD software as an additional add on.

What do you think of that?

LOL, it's 10 AM and I've been up all night trying to get instant HD not to crash FCP  but this is a new software meets most recent systemm software update problem and should hopefully be resolved soon.

But to answer your question ..

In addition to?

hmmm ...

I think its kind of brilliant actually. THat's quite a filmmaking bundle for the price.

DVX
filmmlook software
HD uprezz software
$400 rebate

I have heard people on other forums say that their instant HD stuff edits in with their HVX or as a pretty effective B roll

... so you could definately market this as the highest resolution/best film motion & cinegamma/film look for the price

DVX, Instant HD (as I mentioned ), and MB Edtitors 2 is what I'm using right this second in point of fact.

Can't get closer to film resulotion, motion, and look than this package for the price ...

definately blows the dust off the somwhat stale rebate and sure to generate buzz

you're like ... smart and stuff :cheesy:

Dang Panasonic Canada.

Dang Panasonic Canada.

Here in Canada we get...

The DVX100b...

Nope. That's it. :furious3:

What a gip.

Still, I love the camera (picked up two) and I bought Barry's book.

It's an incentive to me, and I'm planning on buying a B before the end of the month. Could I ask when is the latest I can buy it? As long as my receipt says May, am I qualified for the rebate/book (if I buy from authorized dealer of course)?

Well, I would not have bought the camera w/o the discount, book/dvd, and software. Booring is NOT AN ISSUE. Inconvenient may be and so some people may blow it off for that reason. Money back always beats other extras as you may not need the other extras but everyone appreciates money to spend in any way he/she wants. Again, I think the book and DVD should come with the camera. Think you would see fewer returns if people can see what can be done. Might get more initial excitement which leads to showing more people right off the bat (kind of like "Check out my new car" type of thing) and thus more sales.
More incentives are always a plus and somehting to compete with HD resolutions might not be a bad idea, but I don't know that software and don't understand how you can squeeze 5 oranges worth of OJ from 1 orange.
Just my thoughts.

what we mean by booring is that once its been around fo 6 months its no longer news
when you come out with the rebate everyone says OMG! Did you hear? Pannasonic just started offering $400 back! Once its a matter of course its just not a press release or buzz anymore even though an extra $400 is always welcome.

but in her last post Jan mentioned offering somethinng esle in addition too, not instead of , the $400 -- that's NEW ... you still get the $400 and NEW is always more exciting than old. Most people here know about the $400 so know one is going to start a thread saying -- "hey did you guys hear about the $400 rebate" but they might start a thread that says "Now with instant HD + everythinng else".

I thinks it's a US-only rebate. In europe we don't get anything else. A shame, really - I'd love to use Magic Bullet.

5400mA battery

5400mA battery

On the Panasonic site, it mentions that the DVX100B now ships w/ the extended battery (5400mA 5.5 hours) as its main battery. However, when I called several different vendors, they all said that it does not have that battery but it has the 45 minute battery.

What gives?

Hi Jan,

a couple of questions.

I mailed the yellow $400 rebate form about one week ago, assuming that Panasonic would send me the book and the software when this form arrived. Thanks to this forum, I now recently noticed that thank you note from Panasonic in which it tells me how to get the book and software. However, when I go online, the first step is to request the rebate.

What should I do? Should I request the rebate again? Will there be no problem or should I request the book and software by mail?

Thanks for your help.

If it does not have the 5400mA battery then it is a gray market camera. I was the only product manager to bite the extra buck it would take to put that big battery in there, and I did that because I felt that the customer would find the big battery more viable. I wasn't the one that package the DVX100A, or I would have done it with that camera as well, but here I had the choice on how to set up the package.

So if they say it is a smaller battery, be nice and just hang up on them, they are just trying to scam you. ;-)

Best,

Jan

I just got mine last night (from B&H) - mine came with the 5400ma. If they are supposedly a reputable dealer - My guess is that they aren't opening the box to take a peek, but rather reading from some outdated specs. Maybe.. but if it could be a grey market camera, I'd probably pass on it and go with someone else.

It looks like the Canadian reps felt the same way.

My pair of Bs have the 5400mAh battery as well. Sadly we don't have the rebate, Barry's book & dvd or the Magic Bullet software.

*sigh*

Mind you I ordered my copy of Barry's book and dvd through this site so it all worked out even if I had to spend the extra simolias. Worth every penny, I tell ya!

sincerely,
