Got My Hvx200 Today!

joke is on me being brand new to the Panasonic world. I see it now :) Gyro of the Optical image stabiliser. You where fishing for suckers :)

I finally got a hold of mine too. I love it. The biggest impact on me has just been the P2 workflow. It's so...freeing.

I'm also curious about a good bag though. I got the NAB package which was a great deal and came with a $70 bag but, while it holds the camaera if I take out the inside borders, there really isn't much room for batteries, plugs, P2 cards, ext. Can anyone recommend one?

I need to get a decent bag as well. My porta-brace bags are way to big. I asked about lens focus controls like redrocks too, however no one answered....

I went with the Kata HB-207 bag and really like it. It's a backpack bag with enough room for the HVX, a wide angle adapter, 3 batteries, charger, 10 tapes, 4 P2 cards, a 220>110 voltage converter, and a separate laptop compartment in between the main compartment and the shoulder straps/padding. And then there's still some room left over in exterior pockets. Also comes with a tripod holder to strap to the outside, but then you really have to be careful in a crowd because you're likely to clock someone with the sticks when you turn around, as they're about a foot away from your back.

Backpacks probably aren't best for everyone, but it's pretty comfortable and I've been able to use it as a carryon as well. I don't think it would work as a carryon on a small jet though.

I have the Porta-Brace L3 Backpack that fits my HVX confortably with a p2store, portable HDD, Tape compartment, etc. with the front able to carry my laptop. It seems similar in description to editatjoes backpack. Never tried it on the field yet, but I doubt I could use it as a carry on with the laptop compartment attached. If I unzip it, however, and carry it separatedly, it should work.

Anyway, excelent bag and very well built. Highly recommended. I just bought this model and not the L2 because I have the 17" Powerbook, and I tought it would be great to have the full carrying package of the camera+ capture gear on my backpack and my hands free for either tripod or lighting gear. And in a Backpack I can endure carrying the stuff a lot more than either shoulder strap or hand carrying...
