Just shot a commercial

Overall it was okay. Personally I didn't like the fonts. Too big and bulky. I won't pick over everything. You can tell that it was labor intensive. How long did it take and how much did you charge? Looked like a lot of location shooting, interview setup, animation, etc. I would've charged a bundle.

hehe. Tell me how much you think it's worth and I'll tell you how much I got ripped off. :D

Ok, so right now I'm archiving this video to disk so I can get back my 60GB of harddrive space. There's a chance he may come back later and say "hey we wan't a different file format" or "hey can you make us more DVDs" so I'd like to have a backup.

Given that it's intended for the internet, I'm not concerned with using a lossless compression system. I was thinking either compressing the videos to DV or Sorenson 3. Which do you guys think would be better? (maybe you've got a third suggestion)

Is there some kind of contact info slate at the end? I'm asking because I don't know the total delivery package.

Keep up the good work!

The video is going on their website. sonrisewindows.com

Yeah, that was stupid of me. I don't know what I was thinking. Oh well. Lessons for next time. :crybaby:

Hm. Interesting.

did ushoot on a dvx100a ??
Yup.

and what u use to edit on what program and did u use and CC ??? and what program u did ur CC on ???
Edited on Premiere Pro 1.5
I did no color correction whatsoever. I would have liked to on the outdoor stuff, but I wasn't getting paid enough as it was and I couldn't afford to devote another 6hrs to CC.

I havent read all of the replys, sorry if this is redundant.

Overall I found it pretty good, the only change i would make, is the fact that I wanted to see more of them applying it in the beginning. I was interested in what the actual workers were doing, but it was blurred out. This made it a bit frustrating for me. Other than that-pretty good.

thanks. :)

One thing I don't think I've mentioned is that I didn't shoot any of the onsite footage. I'm actually using stock footage from an MPEG1 compressed commercial that he had made 6 years ago.
I wanted to go out and get better newer stuff, but the guy didn't want to cough up the dough. :furious3: So if the installation footage gets a little redundant and you have to see the same group of people removing the same window 2-3 times, don't blame me. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

We do commercials too and I agree with FilMakerr that the spray logo haning on for so long at times is annoying. Also, the audio for the dialog needs to upped maybe a few db's since I had to turn the audio up to hear them, then the voice over was overpowering. Otherwise, great job!

Yeah, audio isn't exactly my strongsuit yet. If it was in the budget I would have hired someone qualified to regulate it.

What do you mean by the logo hanging for some time? Just that it was sitting onscreen too long or the animation was too slow?

Are you guys using macs or do you not have Windows Media Player updated?

I'm using a mac, and I think I have the latest player for Mac, but I think windows has windows media player 10, and mac is still at 9.

Just curious, for those of you that do this kind of thing regularly, what do you think this commercial is worth in $$$?

I gave them these commercials online, on 6 DVDs for their salesmen to use, and then on 2 looping DVD to display at tradeshows.

Thoughts?

Dude, how many locations did you shoot? Hrs. spent? Did you have an hourly rate? I'm scared to ask what you charged. Let's just say that I just did a 4 minute piece. No formal interview setup. maybe 20 hours of editing. 1 - four hour shoot. I undercharged and came away w/ around 900 bucks.
