HVX Bootcamp - necessary or wait for the book?

Bascially the heading says it all. Money is tight right now (in Connecticut of all places) - and a leaky foundation has chosen to monopolize all of my finances. So, is the Bootcamp that large of a jump in attainable knowledge that it merits the money spent regardless, or can the more monetarily challenged of us afford to hold off and purchase Barry's book instead....Barry? Anyone?

Honestly, I had a great time at bootcamp and learned some new tricks. But, seeing as how I've logged hundreds of hours shooting DVX's, and I read these forums way too much, I felt I knew more or less most topics that were covered. It was still good refresher material, and it was nice to meet the people behind their avatars, and bootcamp reassured me that I knew what I was doing, but I did not learn a lot of new material. And from what I understand a lot of it will be in the book and can already be found on the forums.

If you had to choose one? I'd choose the book. There will always be more material in the book and it can be gone over multiple times in detail and by new people.

The "boot camp" type events are always worthy of the money, but I'd still consider the Book a MUST HAVE.
JMHO. Best of luck.

A serious consideration may be weather or not you have a specific workflow or technical issue. Barry's book will cover every concievable setting and technical detail but it can't advise you on a workflow or shooting tecnique. You can't ask it a question.
And seeing how you get a free copy of Barry's book too how could you lose.
Unless half your house falls down a mountain :)

I'd say if you are on the fence as to going or not going, then you should probably go; especially if it is near your home.

The main benefit from going is the interaction that you get with the speakers and the other members. You may be able to ask a question that you didn't even know you were going to have, and get the answer live. You'll see live projections of footage and live examples of settings and workflow techniques and such.

The book will explain the camera operations as best I can. At BootCamp I give an overview of all the operations and try to make it interactive and with q&a. It's a different style of learning. Some will be just fine with the book, and some learn better in an interactive/hands-on workshop. That's why we're offering both.

Hey guys - thanks alot I love this place. Looking to get my HVX in the next six months to right months...hopefully. The atmosphere of learning may be the deciding factor - Barry has a good point in this (and many other) regard. Oh, and, Evin if my house goes down the side of a mountain...I will bludgeon you with one of it's many fine, vintage, early 1900's stones that make up it's rickety foundation.....just kidding!

Sorry guys! Just booked two days on the 20th and 21st so no go on Bootcamp. Best of luck to everyone and I hope it opens up all the possibilities the HVX has to offer!

I still haven't decided on boot camp, but I might go cause I'm leaning towards getting the hvx now. I'll probably have to wait till the last minute cause I live a very unpredictable life. If there's no room for me I'm gonna peek through the window.

When you consider the cost of the camera and a couple of P2 cards (I paid about $8200 for camera and 2 8GB cards), I figure that another $289 is a great way to maximize the value of my investment. At this point, after having used the camera for a few weeks, I can't think of a better way to spend my time than a day with the guys who know the ins and outs of the HVX200 better than anyone else I know of. See you on the 20th.

Where IS that book Barry? I asked you at the LA bootcamp, and you said it was at the printer. Any predictions? I could sure use it.
