I need to get a tripod. I had one I got off ebay, was not that bad, but I could not do nice diagonal pans, and I sold it with the SD camera I sold. So I need to get a new one and it needs to be a NICE and effective one. But I only got $500. Since I just spent 5800 on the BH deal. Please help me out, and please post a link.

Hmm...

The cheapest fluid head that is capable of smooth diagonals (I say this with confidence after having tried nearly all of them last year at NAB) is the Cartoni Focus. With single stage aluminum legs, a complete kit sells for about $1200 @ B&H.

"If you wants to play, you gots to pay..."

I got an offer for a Vinten Vision 10 with with head. Guy said it sells brand-new for 4500, and it years old, and he is offering to me for 700.00 good or bad?

Beware that the Vision 10 needs quite a bit of payload to be able to balance. About 16 lbs if the camera has a low center of gravity.

i dont like the vision, but alot of people love them. I love the cartoni focus, its what i use. The bogen 501 and 503 are too light for the hvx with mattebox etc. They will work, but you will find yourself wanting to upgrade in a year.

I used to own the 3251, and yea, it's a photo tripod, but it's pretty nice (the telescopic legs are pretty cool).

Man, Our camera must weight like 6lbs.. in regards to blanacing, what exactly doesnt that mean for a tripod. I thought you just blance the head so the bubble is centered? so I am such a newb

camera balance and level are two different things. Level is the bubble, you do that so when you pan your pans follow the horizon, if its not level when you pan the camera will ramp up or down.

balance is the sweet spot or middle weight of the camera, basically if you stop the camera on a pencil the balance point is there the camera would balance out instead of falling off the pencil. This is important for movement on the head, so that the camera moves each way with the same amount of effort, and on spring assisted devices allows the camera to return to normal.

i would try and get the focus with you.. it is the best bang for the buck hands down... seriously, there is no competition in that price point. The bubble is even lighted. You should be able to buy the head only for around 800 bucks and you can buy some cheap ass used legs off ebay to make do till you can get new ones.

Jared.. Dude come on my budget is 500, I was able to up it to 700, but to only get the head.. WHICH I would, but then I would not only be over 50 bucks on the budget, but then I would need to buy the tripod legs.. Not to mention they are out of stock.

I found one of these Sachtler Tripod VIDEO 20 III Fluid Head - what do ya think jared?
